Will I have a job Monday, Congress?

Most of you probably have heard by now, unless you're just a moron and don't care about current events, that Congress can't get its head out of its ass and pass this budget.

This affects me directly. I'm a federal employee, and yes, I do work. If they don't pass this budget, I will NOT be working. And will NOT be getting paid and may or may NOT get paid retroactively. The Soldiers who FIGHT for US everyday, whom I support by doing MY job, won't get paid. What a crock.

If I'm being honest, I can honestly say that I'll be OK if the furlough lasts a week. I can manage those funds. I have a back-up. Some people....do NOT. And that makes me sad. I'm more worried ofr others than myself at this point. Longer than a week? I'm basically screwed.

I'm not going to complain about it and rub it in the dirt, but it's important to mention- from someone who is experiencing this directly.

I'm starting to see and hear ignorance from people who think this doesn't affect them- telling all us who will be out of a job, for who knows how long, to stop complaining and go get another job......WOW. Thanks! That idea never really crossed my mind you piece of crap, so thanks for the advice.

If you think a government shutdown won't affect you, even indirectly 23 times removed, you're a COMPLETE Moron. At the very least you should care because this your country. Our country is going to go to shit if people keep brushing off stuff such as this. That is all.

Ugh, so sorry friend. I'm an attorney so a lot of my old friends from law school that work for the govt are really stressed about this too. And anyone who says this won't affect them is indeed a complete moron. Agreed.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you!!! :(

I'm crossing my fingers for no shut down as well! I live in DC so it's EVERYONE here that is going to feel it. I don't work for the govt, but I sell to the Federal Govt and this year has been a painful one. No money, and now no customer will even be there to tell me there's no money!

Thanks guys for the support :)

So sorry you have to deal with this crap. It IS a complete crock and our government is ridiculous for put it's people in this position.

The whole thing is ridiculous. They are fighting to the death over what in the grand scheme of the budget is a totally inconsequential amount.

I have a few friends who work in D.C. and are obviously hoping there's no shutdown either! Hopefully everyone comes to their senses and you all will be at work on Monday!

I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up. I am fed up with our (non) leadership - it is not an issue of Dem/Repubs, both sides are just sticking their thumbs up their butts and trying to point the blame the other way. Of course THEY won't be affected, but they seem to forget about the thousands of people who will be directly affected, and the hundreds of thousands who will be indirectly affected - and they don't seem to give a rat's butt. OK, gov rant over. I feel for you!

It's a horrendous mess. I live near Fort Campbell and having friend's spouses, espeically for my friend who is due any day now, over seas with the potential of them not getting paid is total bullshit. You're so right that this affects everyone. What is our country coming to? I hope this gets resolved quickly. Thinking of you!

What a mess.

I can't say too much without going on one of those annoying political rants, but what I will say is that I hope this is all resolved quickly. What an effin' mess...

People and their crappy advice! I really hope that everything works out for you. My job is affected as well so I'm feeling for ya!

I hope this gets taken care of ASAP. Like you, I don't live paycheck to paycheck but I know many who do. Looks like last week was a bad time to put in my notice (to finish school full time)! My fiancé is in the Coast Guard and officially working for free today :(

Oh girl - I hope this is resolved immediately. I hate people. This post reminded me of how much I can hate people (a lot) and why (stupidity). GRRR. Keep us posted, girl.

I find it disgusting that our elected officials go on and on about protecting the middle class but then do crap like this or in Wisconsin playing games with the livelihood of real people. My Mother is an federal employee and while she has a bit of cushion for a certain amount time, she too recognizes that others do not - she's freaking worried about how long this thing will last too.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the folks who suffer from foot-in-mouth disease.

I agree with this completely. I really can't even get started in on this because I won't stop. Its infuriating.

I hope they work it out. This affects everyone and it's just insane.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this - it's so stressful! I lost my job 8 mnths ago and still haven't found anything and I don't work for the gov't, so you're right, it's not easy to just "go find another job" right now. I sure hope everything works out and you can keep your job!
