A Running Post! As T.I. would say: Whatchoo Know About It??

Another blog entry about running? Hot damn!

Today I'm going for another 5 miles. Last Monday I ran my first 5 miles in one running session and was so proud and pumped beyond belief....but the rest of the week? I was SO tired. SO blah. I did manage to get in 5.5 more miles for the week, but that's kinda shitty, no?

I really don't think I'm eating enough. I TRY. Really, I do. I find that in order to sustain my long runs (5 miles in this case) I need LOTS of carbs. Most people don't want to eat heavily before a run, but I get too weak-headed and my eyes start to cross (no bullshit. Haha) if I don't. Anyone else like this or am I just a crazo? What do you eat before a run that's longer than 3 miles (or a workout that's over an hour)? Please, tell me what works for you.

The day I ran those 5 miles easily, I had pasta shells stuffed with turkey meat and red sauce. Just FYI.

A fellow blogger shared her running tunes on her blog here. I enjoy being nosey and seeing what's on others playlist's- so here be mine (Minus a few songs. I can't remember all at the moment.)

(NOTE: Songs with astricks (sp?) NEVER move from my workout/running playlist. EVER. They are permanent fixtures that I never get sick of. All other songs get rotated as I become bored...)

* Bang, Bang- K'naan ft. Adam Levine (Oh geez oh Pete's. This song is my fave running song at the moment. it pumps me up like NO other! This is a must have in my opinion)

* Yeah- Usher (If you don't feel like moving when you hear this, you're a freak)

* Colors & Cold- Crossfade (Rock music gets me pumped, hyped and ready to run. These two songs are especially "angry" and get me all pissed, and when I'm pissed off I run harder and faster. For a brief minute anyway. Hey whatever works)

* Black Betty- Ram Jam (If you don't like running to this song...well....again, you're a freak)

* Breath- Breaking Benjamin (One of those passionate-lyric-rock songs that fuels the fire under my ass)

* Fighter- Christina Aguilera (This used to be my running anthem. The words psyche me up, but the tempo is a little slower than I'd like. But, hey it's still a keeper)

* Hey Ya- Outkast (You know you clap everytime)

* Bombs Over Baghdad- Outkast (Well, ya can't walk to this song!! Amazing)

* Stronger- Kanye (Awesome running song. The words make me feel "stronger")

* Britney Spears- (ALL and ANY of it. However, to be specific as possible: Stronger, Toxic, Baby One More Time, Break The Ice and Womanizer)

* Faint- Linkin Park (My heart feels like it may just beat right out of my chest when I run and listen this. And I mean that in the best way possible)

* Washin' & Wonderin' - Stroke 9 (Oh, love. I love this song OH so much. When I hear that first line my speed jumps up immediately..."This just in...Where to begin. Grin and bare it, it's bare and grin...")

* 25 Miles- Edwin Starr (Ever seen the movie "Adventures in Babysitting?" This song was in the movie when they're speeding to get home before the kids' parents. This song is miraculous. Try it. You'll like it.)

Survivor- Destiny's Child (Cheesy. But sometimes it's just what I need to finish strong)

Good (Live from the House of Blues)- Better Than Ezra (Ok. So, because BTE is my favorite band foreva eva and not really AWESOME for running jams, I couldn't NOT add them to the playlist. I add them to every playlist. Even Christmas. It's BTE. Hello!? ha!)

Take It Off- The Donnas (Sometimes this song annoys me and I change it. Other times I enjoy doing what the song tells me to do and I strip off my shirt)

Waking Up In Vegas- Katy Perry (Upbeat? Stick it on the playlist)

How Low- Ludacris (I just heart Luda. Period)

Whataya Want from Me- Adam Lambert (Good slower tempo song to run to. It's a fun song yet allows me time to breeeeathe.)

If I Had You- Adam Lambert (Uhm yeah!! IF I HAD YOU!! YOU Yuh, yuh yuh yuh yuh YOU!!)

My Life Would Suck Without You- Kelly Clarkson (Love running to the chorus)

All I Ever Wanted- Kelly Clarkson (Good slower paced running song)

Telephone- Lady Gaga & Beyonce (Usually I just get off my treadmill or stop in the middle of the street to the dance from the video when this song comes on. Not really productive. ha!)

Crazy in Love- Beyonce (The beat keeps me at a steady pace)

You can find this list for future reference on my Workout/Run log in the top bar.

Tell me- if you could only pick ONE song you couldn't do without during your run or workout, what would it be?

My first training attempt

Uhm. So last night, I laced up my sneakers (need new ones soon. Keep reading. More on that later in this entry.) and hopped on my beautiful, new treadmill for my VERY first "training" session for this Army 10-miler.

I shouldn't get so involved with the distance and time, seeing as how I haven't RAN an entire mile in over a YEAR, but I was slightly disappointed, yet still motivated to keep pushing myself little by little.

It was hard NOT to think about the distance of 10 miles. As I ran/jogged/walked/panted, questions swirled in my brain, "How in the HELL am I going to run 3 miles, let alone all 10 come race day in October?!", "1.75 miles? That's IT?? I'm gonna die."

My stats?
I walked/jogged/ran the first mile in 12:30. Mile 2: 14:00. Total time for 2 measly miles: 26:30.

I was really hoping to run 5K in under 30 minutes, but thinking honestly about it- that's FAST. 10:00 mile? *BAHAHA!!* Yeah, I am nowhere near that.

And don't you hate those people who will post a Facebook status and/or complain about something, when in actuality it's nothing to complain about? Well, I do.

Example:

"UGH. Completed the 5K in 32 minutes. Horrible time, but not bad for my first run."

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Really?? Really?? Care for some cheese with that wine?

So, anyway. I'm still trying to determine the BEST training method for me. Tonight I think I'll try to jog/run 10 minutes straight- not going super fast, but at comfortable speeds so that I won't need a break. We'll see the distance I get and I can improve from there, slowly adding more run time minute by minute, week by week.

The most important thing I realized last night was how my priorities have shifted since being signed up for this race. No longer, at least for now, are my workouts/runs centered around me losing weight. I'm working out/strength training/running because I want to improve. I want to accomplish a feat that most people are SCARED to even begin. The perk about all of this? The weight will still come off and I'm not even concerned about it- it'll JUST happen. Do you know how freeing that is?? It's a total feeling of freedom.

I was scared of running. Still am in a way- It's something I've always thought of as impossible for myself. Run 3 miles straight? (I was one of the last kids in school to finish their mile run.) When that day comes, I may cry.

On to shoes: Running shoes that is. Although not my fave type of shoe, nor the prettiest & sexiest, a very important one. Have any of you heard/seen the new Reebok Zigtech shoes?
Here they are. The coolest thing? You can customize colors! Bring on the hot pink!!

Although, not the most attractive (how about them lasagana noodle lookin' soles??)- they are supposedly designed as "energy for your feet", propelling you forward per say? I'd like to try them on and get a feel for them. At present time I wear Adidas with the shocks looking things on the bottom- gives me great support. If you run at all or workout, what shoes do you wear?

Another realization? I need more carbs if I'm going to run. Geez. Talk about almost pass-out city for me last night. LOL!
Have a great Wednesday.

Treadmill and fashion finds

It really is amazing how being around friends makes you happy- just solidifying my theory that this life we live on earth IS all about relationships and having people around you who you love. Ok...yeah, no, I didn't CREATE this theory, but I strongly believe in it.

OH CRAP MOMENT. I have 3 weeks until my BFF's Couples Wedding Shower and haven't bought any Favors for the guests yet....I'm the MOH. I wanted to buy cute koozies, but now I'm not sure they'll get here in time...Any ideas?? Honestly, I've been outting that idea off because hardly any of the 25 invitees have RSVP'd besides the bridal party and the parents of the couple. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Do people NOT have consideration anymore? RSVP people. It AIN'T (yes, ain't) that hard!!

I took the first steps toward training for the Army 10-miler today. I bought a treadmill!! I had a budget, so I'm hoping this one holds up for the price tag- It'll be here Thursday! :-) It's The Nordictrak A2750 Pro.

BUT, trust me when I tell you, I realize I not only need to train indoors- but the treadmill will help me to begin with. Plus, my right knee likes to scream at me when I run on asphalt :-/ Which is my biggest concern, to tell you the truth, about this entire experience. The last thing I wanna do is screw up my knee by training too hard. Here's hoping the knee brace does it's job! And the frozen peas.

MY SCARS REMIND ME, THAT THE PAST IS REAL. So..remember that rash I had a few weeks back? *sigh* It left my upper arms with small scars :-( BIG, huge honking *sigh*. They're faint, but damnit....scars??? It can't be from me scratching because I rarely did. Does anyone have recs for any kind of cream or lotion that will reduce the appearance of these....THAT WORKS? I'm not a believer in creams fixing things (i.e. stretchmarks) but I'm thinking these are such little, baby scars that something may help out.....

FASHION FEVA'. Ann Taylor LOFT was sweet enough to send me $40 bucks in Style rewards. Yeah. It only took me spending HUNDREDS of dollars on my Mom's Ann Taylor LOFT Credit Card (which can be used at other stores. I don't think I'd ever spend hundreds at Ann Taylor LOFT. I never see a lot of stuff I particularly like.), but was well worth it. I bought these two items:

The cardigan, I bought to layer over my Balletomane top from Anthropologie- I LOVE the color combo of the dark purple of the cardigan with the light ash blue top. LOVE it!

Also, I FINALLY scored the Rodarte Lace dress from Target that I never even saw in stores. Nabbed it off ebay suckas! Happily, I actually REALLY love it. I never buy clothes from Target, because they're cut weird for my body- but this dress is GREAT! It's a teeny bit on the shprter side, but then again, I have long legs so everything LOOKS shorter than it actually is on me. I think I'll wear it to work anyway- As long as my hoo hoo isn't hanging out, we're ALL good.

I'm craving Chik-Fil-A. And I must listen to my stomach. Have a great night, pretty ladies (and gents? haha)
