#2. My baby boy, Brady is overweight by one or two pounds. I took him and Chiva for a walk today and while putting on his harnass I had to make it bigger...Needless to say, it wouldn't go as big as it needed to go. *sigh* The poor boy. He had surgery a few months ago and has to eat special food for his bladder health. I think it has a lot to do with his weight gain.
Anyone out there with smaller dogs have any advice on helping them shed a pound or two? Do ya think walks will do the trick? They rarely ever go for a walk- I just let them out in the backyard. I think I'll shoot for maybe a walk 2-3x a week for them.....
Exhibit A: Both of my dogs roughly 15 minutes after going for a walk. Scandalous!
#3. I just did my first workout in- BRACE yourselves-....THREE months. I'm ashamed, frankly. I am, I am, I SWEAR I am! Ugh. I let life get in my way of my healthy lifestyle and I'm paying for it. My cardiovascular helth is still surprisingly intact, but my body physically NOT. My back is feeling tight where it's never hurt before. My bad knee is acting up from immobility- it's just kind of a mess.
The good thing is it's a new beginning and I have a revived sense of health and well-being. Can't wait to make this year the healthiest yet!
Welcome to 2012, my friends. I hope it brings happiness for you all :)

I'm slightly dreading work tomorrow too...just because January is going to be all sorts of crazy!!!
When my dog was over weight, I used to give him carrots as treats. He loved them! Just break them up into small pieces.
I agree with Liz - baby carrots make great doggie treats.
No matter how much my doxies beg, we still stick to a 1 treat a day routine too.
I'm a new follower and I just wanted to say I love your blog already! I'm sorry to hear your vacation is almost over but I wouldn't worry too much about your little dog, it's only a couple of pounds right? I can empathise with the work out thing too, I haven't lifted since September! Good luck with continuing to be fit this year though!
Mix green beans in with their food. Its lower in calories but fills them up faster while giving them the nutrients they need. :)
It was definitely rough going back to work after being off over the holidays.
We have 2 Cavalier's that are on the small side. Our one needed to lose about 2-3 pounds. Walks did help but now that it's cold out, it's rough to keep up with it. I try to make sure she goes up and down the stairs once or twice a day to keep everything in check.
I'm a little dog lover myself and, honestly, playing with them in the house by making them run around for 10-15 min a day is enough for their little bodies to lose weight. Also, feeding them only dry food does the trick because they don't like it enough to overindulge, only enough to keep them at a healthy weight. Also, don't feed them fatty foods (such as the fatty parts of chicken you make yourself). Instead, give them the good stuff: the meat you yourself would eat just in much smaller amounts. And of course a daily short walk will help them too.
BTW, I fell off the exercise wagon for 5 months! But I'm back on!
Best wishes to you!
