The Friday Fives...on a Wednesday.

I'm usually bad about blogging regularly these days, but I love the idea of a short and simple update like Christina does at Hungry Meets Healthy every Friday.

This week is hectic: Leaving for Bimringham to see my BFF's Thursday, a FAB Beer Fest Friday and then off to South Caroline for good.... and I won't be blogging, so I'm giving you The Friday Fives on a WEDNESDAY!! (I need an iPad)

Let's get to it!

1. What I'm listening to: Red Hot Chili Peppers- Give it Away and Zephyr. I can't seem to get enough of either since the concert at Hangout Fest a couple weekends ago. I've been rolling the window down and rocking out to Give it Away and then I'll switch to the more mellow Zephyr. It's a great balance. Zephyr makes me teary-eyed....it reminds me of my move and my friend Joy, who shares my love of the Peppers....she told me to listen to it to make me cheer up...it initially worked and then i got sad because I'll miss her. lol--- Damn.

2. What I'm bookmarking: Don't judge me. I saved a wedding dress, yes, I did. I'm not a HUGE wedding obsessed girly-girl, but I do have some ideas (OK, a lot. I just pretend I don;t care) bookmarked and saved for a rainy day. This Jim Hjelm dress is gorgeous with it's lace and detailing....

3. What I'm reading: I needed a book for the beach trip last weekend and here were the contenders.....

The Strain: Book 1 by Guillermo Del Toro

Abe Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith

2312 by Kimberly Stanley Robinson

For Nothing by Nicholas Denmon

The Silent Girl by Tess Gerritsen

I really wanted the 2312 book, but that junk was $30!! What?? Yeah. I love me some books, but I'll just buy it off e-bay or something. I'd spend $30 for a Harry Potter book, but not something I'm not 100% sure about....Which one did I end up choosing? The Vamp Hunter. Old Honest Abe. The title is stupid, but everyone seems to really like the book- I think my qualms about it come from the stupid title and Vampires. I'm just tired of the vampire shiznit. (Still excited for the new season of True Blood, though. make NO mistake about THAT.)

Anyone read this book??

4. Image(s) I'm digging: I mean...you know it's true.

5. Where I'm traveling: Grayton Beach/Seaside, Florida, baby! Nothing like the white sandy beaches and crystal blue waters of the Gulf. Spent the weekend with the family, dogs and met up with April and Erin Saturday. See previous post for more photos...

Next time I blog, I'll be living in Charleston for good :)

Much love.

Here's how I spent my Memorial Day Weekend...Grayton Beach style

My last weekend living in Alabama and Memorial Day weekend was spent down at the beautiful white sands of Grayton Beach. I love the area- it's not packed out and is super relaxing. My parents and I always take their RV to the Beach park and set up camp for the long weekend.

I admit I got sick of being in the HOT after two days, so I went home a day early, leaving my parents to enjoy their heat one more day. Yes, the RV is air conditioned, but I needed my bed!!

Using my "I love Hooters" koozie. I prefer to think that it's really showing my love for owls instead. yes. That's it. The hammock was my favorite place Saturday afternoon...got a little burnt around the ankles. Weird places, man. Guess I didn't apply the sunscreen that well.

Mom cooking breakfast at the campsite. Turkey Bacon, oh yes.

Cruiser outside The Red Bar, where we enjoyed Bloody Mary's and Frozen Strawberry Margaritas Sunday morning....while getting bit by asshole yellow flys.

Mom and I at The Red Bar.

Parents normal.....

Parents pretending to be drunk and passed out. Their idea. Not mine. lol

Enjoying a beach day on Saturday!

Exfoliatin'

There was quite a lot of seaweed on the beach....

I've had enough of the beach for awhile, but plan on living it up on the beaches of Charleston this summer!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

Charleston moving woes

The countdown has begun.

3 more full days of work at my current location.

1 more day before Grayton Beach trip with the family.

8 days until I see my friend Marion and attend Brewfest in Birmingham.

10 more days until I move to Charleston.....and I'm sad.

Up until today I was excited more than anything about moving to a kick-ass city, starting a new job and experiencing all it has to offer, but now I'm just sad. I've moved and lived on my own (with my dog babies) pretty much since I graduated college in 2006, so I should be used to all of this, right?! Not.

I'm starting to remember that "alone" feeling I get when I move to a new place and have no friends. I hate it. I'm pretty good about meeting new people, but it sucks to not have those people who know your quirks, what makes you laugh and what that disgusted face you make ACTUALLY means, around you to experience all of these exciting things with- and those new people you meet may or may not call or text and ask you to hang out on a weekend.....I may just end up being by myself, holed up in my stupid apartment drunk off wine (.... that doesn't sound all that bad. BAH!!) watching The Notebook.

Listen to me- all dramatic-like.

*sigh*

I looked the devil in the eye.....

".....And I said...DEVIL...I am NOT hanging out with you at Hangout."- Joy

You'd have to literally know my friend Joy and I to think that quote was funny, but it was one of only a handful of the most hilarious shit I have ever said or heard in my life.

This past weekend was the third annual Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores, Alabama. My friend Joy and I were attending for the first time and it didn't disappointing. It ran smoothly, everything was laid out nicely, enough port-o-potties for all 35,000 visitors, plenty of food variety, good beer...and honestly everything was a higher price, but nothing outrageous in my opinion. $6 for a TALL BOY Dos Equis. Not bad, really.

Our main reason for going was the Red Hot Chili Peppers. We just saw them in April, but once a year is never enough :) They're one of our favorites!!

I managed a few photos from the long weekend......

Owl Koozie! Gas station find, heck yeah! Standing in line I realized that I would be making the statement that I loved hooters, but whatev.

Our cheap ass condo! Cheap in price, not in quality! Only 4 miles from the venue. Thank you Joy for your hook-up!

  Da Kitchen

I like anything that condones whining. ;)

It was so hot the first day we got out to the beach! Here we were listening to Alabama Shakes (Who are REALLY awesome by the way!! The lead singer woman has a deep, scratchy-type voice and was rocking it!). This was when Joy said the quote at the beginning of this blog....She got too hot and had to be taken to the first aid tent to cool off- some stupid people were trying to give her BEER to drink as she found her way to the tent. Morons.

Wicking the sweat with our napkins.

Joy's pretty smile ended up in a lot of people's photos that weekend...lol. photobombing was in full-force!

The Peppers played Saturday night and our goal was to be up front! Call me naive, but I didn't realize there were any other RHCP fans in the world as big as we are, so I figured as long as we got there 4 hours early before they started, we'd be able to get up front........WRONG! There was another band playing around 5:00....the Chili Peppers were scheduled for 9:00, and we managed to squeeze up towards the front during the other band. There were a lot of people who left after that band, but there were also a LOT of people who were waiting to see the Peppers, too. Dammit. Our plan had kinda failed, but we were still about 12 "rows" from the stage. We could see Anthony, Flea and Chad's face. Don't care about the new guitarist Josh. I miss John.

Anyway, best show I've ever seen them play live. BEST! It was so awesome! Anthony was all over the stage, full of energy and Flea was Flea- telling the crowd to "forgive your parents. forgive your sisters and brothers" and ripping his bass to shreds! LOVED every single minute. I can't get enough of them.

At one point Joy, myself and our other friend Melanie were singing along to some older songs they played and realized we were the oldest people in the area we were standing...none of the kids around us knew anything besides newer stuff. WTF. I hate that. lol I'm so glad I was a fan during their PRIME, too :)

I didn't get photos because I was too busy singing and jumping and dancing, but here's some video footage courtesy of MTV and a few pictures from various other internet sources:

Get More: Music News

Anthony looks pretty good for 50 years old......but I sure do miss those "Scar Tissue" days when his body was OUT of this world!!!

I HIGHLY recommend Hangout next year! It's a great, fun weekend, if you enjoy live music and the beach :)

Stuff to take your mind off the fact that its Monday

My eyes need toothpicks this morning- I can barely keep these hoebag eyelids open.

1. Thank you McDonald's coffee for saving me (somewhat). I don't know why the McDonald's peeps gave me a straw with my coffee this morning, but I appreciate that sweet gesture. However, did not use the straw.

2. This song. This song is annoying, or so I thought. Now it's embedded permanently into my brain and I can't stop singing it. Seriously. I can't. Also, it makes me happy in the mornings. Kinda. Call me maybe?

3. My friend April made Spicy Chicken Enchilada's for my "going-away" meal this weekend. It was GROOD. Oh, so grood.

4. I watched the Notebook this weekend and boo-hooed like a freaking child. I have a love-hate relationship with this movie....Ryan G. tells me everyday, though, that this film is about us...so I can't hate it too much.

5. I'm getting a massage tomorrow. Hallelujah.

Space saving "makeup table"

WOO!! I have a solution to a very first-world problem....

In my new apartment there isn't ANY bathroom counter space- which is where I'm used to doing my make-up. The best solution in my mind was to start doing my makeup and hair in my bedroom- more space, less humidity anyway.

While there is PLENTY of space in the master bedroom, the only available wall left for a "make-up table" used to be a friggin' fireplace- yeah true story....I'll take a photo once I get back to Charleston. This former fireplace is no longer, but the floor part of the fireplace is still there, if that makes sense....and it's not flush with the floor, so a table would have to be SUPER slim and tiny...that's tough to find...

Enter Pinterest and this pin:

TA freaking DA! Two white floating shelves (that I wanted to buy ANYWAY) turns into a "desk" of sorts. I probably won't be sitting to do my make-up, never have, but I can just imagine these two shelves next to my full length mirror. No floor space required.

I understand this is simply two shelves on a wall, but humor me, aiyt?

It looks cute.

I'm happy.

Project officially added to my to-do list :) At least my make-up will now have a home.

Paging all bloggers who live in or AROUND Charleston...

HA! That phrase "in or around" reminds me of Dane Cook's "Someone has shit on the coats" skit....If you haven't heard it...it's funny....I almost tried to recreate it for you...via typing. yeah. FAIL.

SOoooo, today is Friday!! I'm putting out a page for alllll bloggers in or around (HAHA) the Charleston, SC area! I got a little crazy-psycho last night and started stalking all the blogs I could find from people who live there! I just want to immerse myself in this city so much- I've NEVER felt this way. I am beyond thrilled to be moving to a place that people seem to love so much. I feel blessed and lucky.

If you're in the Charleston area- I already know a few of you- please speak up here and let me know! I'm dying to have a blogger meet-up! Something I've never been able to do in my three years of having this sweet blog of mine :)

I'm not one to rush through days and wish for the future to hurry up and get here....but I'm really looking forward to moving there at the end of the month :)

What are your weekend plans? My sweet friends are having different "going-away" type things for me. So sweet. I didn't really want them, but it just happened. I really do have sweet friends....One is cooking Spicy Chicken Enchilada's Friday and then the other is barbecuing Saturday. YESSS...

Happy Friday!!

Resetting your body

Thursday already? I'll take it!!

I've been doing pretty OK with my eating since I've started the whole moving process, but my workouts have been slim to NONE unfortunately. I'm getting in a few, but not as many as I would like.

I was looking over Beachbody's website this morning and really looking into their newest program, The Ultimate Reset. It's like a "cleanse" if you will, for your body, that's supposed to jump start and reset. I wasn't really interested at first- mainly because I've read articles that fully support the fact that you don't NEED a cleanse- your body doesn't NEED to be reset. I'm kinda still on the fence about it....but I saw some results from a few team members of mine and decided I MUST try it! The only bad part about it is there are NO workouts allowed on the reset- only yoga, basically. I wish I could have been doing this rest all this time while moving, damn! lol

It's a 21 day program and you still get to eat- just healthy (duh).

You can read more about it here on my site- it's more informative than me sitting here typing it- I'm sure I'll miss something.

So, yeah, thinking about doing it in June....I'd really like to have someone to do it with me, so if you're interested let me know!! Serious resetters ONLY! lol I don't wanna be left hanging.

Afternoon supplements. Alkalinize is designed to help maintain alkalinity. It helps neutralize excess acid to support your immune system.

I'm willing to try anything once and as a Beachbody Coach I feel I SHOULD! That way I can tell people interested about MY results.

WOO!! I'll let you know if I try it and I'll be sure to document the progress.....

Little things bring me stress

When I'm stressed, it's because of the little things- never big issues. It should definitely be the other way around. I guess when the little things add up, it becomes one HUGE big stressor...

After a looooong two days of traveling to South Carolina and back, I got my belongings moved. The hardest part is over...kinda. When me and my parents got there we noticed it was SO unbelievably hot in the apartment and the air was running....and HAD been running since yesterday according to the landlord, who lives next door. After 4 hours in the place and having the air set down to 70, we all concluded that the air unit was janked up. Great. Please add that to my list of things to worry about about. I hate being hot. It makes me ILL. If you want to see Jenny in the worst mood ever, break my air conditioner. lol

The landlord was only there briefly (he does not own the house, mind you, so I'm sure anything that needs fixed he has to FIRST tell the owner of the house) but his answer to the OBVIOUS broken air unit was, "Well....it's been hot out. I changed the filter yesterday." Really? Because that has everything to do with why it's blowing NON cold air and not budging below 85. Thanks. Moron.

The movers I hired to unload my stuff was the best decision I ever made. Up until this move I always moved my stuff with the help of my parents. There's absolutely NO way I would have gotten my stuff up the steep stairs leading to my apartment. NO. WAY. Thank goodness for those movers...they were strong., One of them brought up my 56' TV all by himself. WTF?

Sorry I don't have photos of all this fun- that was the last thing on my mind. Looking back, it would have been smart of me to show you guys how steep the stairs were and how DIRTY the place was....OK, not DIRTY like Christina Aguilera's HEY DAY dirrty, but NOT clean, as I was told it would be.

Look....I like cleaning, I do, but in this case I didn't bring anything to clean WITH and I couldn't unbox LOTS of my things because of that minor detail. Do you call crumbs on the counter and oven cleaner STILL in the oven clean?? I don't. Maybe I have high standards of what CLEAN is.....but....Not giving me a great first impression here, guys. I can tell the people who lived here before me didn't give two shits about their place of dwelling. Renting or owning, I ALWAYS keep my place nice and clean. It's a reflection of me and they didn't take care of anything.....Hell, the owner of this house should be paying ME to live here!!!!

So, at the end of the month when I return back the air better be fixed because I have lots of unboxing and moving around of stuff because the apartment wasn't cleaned beforehand. Assholes.

I don't know why I ever go into Old Navy. I say that same sentence every single time I do. Their clothes are HORRIBLY made. I'm looking for a simple, cute sundress since I stupidly forgot to keep some dresses with me while I'm still living in Alabama.....A simple and cute sundress doesn't exist at Old Navy unless it bags and sags in one place, fits in the other and just looks like crap. I hate Old Navy. OLD NAVY...you suck. I always knew you did, but now, you're on my BANNED list. hahaha

I am on a roll today. I need to go back to bed....fo sho.

A list.....and eating habits while moving

I'm finally breathing somewhat easier today- after weeks of planning, prepping and packing, it's come down to the last few days before I load up the U-Haul and get my stuff to Charleston.

I signed the lease on my apartment today, the renters of my house signed last Saturday and the moving truck and movers are scheduled. I decided to pack and load the truck myself (with my parents' loving help) and hire movers to UNLOAD and move it all UPSTAIRS. My poor Dad and Mom- I mean, they're still young, but not as agile as they used to be- I decided to give them a break. It was pretty inexpensive to hire 2 movers for 2 hours. DONE deal!

Packing is ALMOST, almost complete- I have a few odds and ends and my main closet to pack yet, but everything else is pretty much packed and my house looks like a flea shop. lol

I've come up with a list of items that I still NEED to still buy (yes, need. As if I don't have enough things already...):

1. Microwave. The unit doesn't come with one. Dumb. I did notice that the tenants currently in the apartment had one on their counter. Believe it or not, there is more counter and cabinet space in the apartment than my house. ha!

2. Queen Bed. I'm going to have guests and a HUGE priority for me is for them to have a queen bed. For the 3 years I lived in my house I only had an air mattress (BAHA!! Sorry guests). Now I'm searching for one. I found a GREAT deal for a queen mattress and boxspring on Craigslist for $60! No stains, 4 years old- I'll take it! Hoping the dude gets back with me on that.....

3. Full-length mirror. I need a full-length floor mirror. I have such expensive taste and all of the mirrors I love are $300+. Think: West Elm. I love their full-length mirrors OH so much. The price? No.

Guess what I also saw on Craigslist the other day?! A COUNTER top DISHWASHER! LOL. I seriously had no idea those existed- where you plug it up to your faucet. It's a HUGE thang....I mean, really...at that point I'd rather just wash by hand, mmkay?

Not sure if I've told you all, but I've actually gone down in weight and inches since finding out I was moving- I guess that's what being busy does to ya! I'm SO proud of myself for staying FAR, far away from JUNK! I'm finally at that point where if I eat anything that isn't good and healthy for me, I wanna vomit immediately. FINALLY! ;) Now, that's not to say I don't like sweets and salties, but trust me- I'd much rather eat chicken and broccoli.

My lifesaver is and always will be Shakeology. I drink it for breakfast still and it's been such a help in getting in my vitamins and good carbs and protein.....My favorite recipe is the Butterfinger recipe, which you can see below.

Seriously? If you haven't tried it, please do. It's good stuff. It's not a weight-loss magician, but that's a PLUS. It's just a well-balanced MEAL that doesn't need any thought or preparation. LOVE it. As you may know, you can buy the shake through Beachbody VIA my website....the link is here.

Other than Shakeology, I've just been trying to eat sensibly. Nothing hard there. Moving and the stress of life can be daunting and exhausting, but that doesn't mean you should compromise your healthy habits.

So, that's whats happening in my life as of today! I'll update in a few days how the move goes! :)

Much love!!!
