Not So Slacker Friday- What I'm eating & Weekly workouts

Welcome to the first edition of "Not So Slacker Friday"

In 2008, I learned from my trainer and good friend the best foods to eat to really slim down and be healthy at the same time. It was amazing how much impact changing my diet had on my body's ability to lose fat, gain muscle tone.

I haven't stuck to this way of eating consistently SINCE 2008, but I'm ready mentally....I think. HA!

{Keep in mind that this meal plan is similar to those used by"Fitness Models"}

{I hate the term "diet" when used to mean RESTRICTING oneself. The word diet will only be used by me as a general term for the food I eat: i.e. "My diet consists of healthy foods" or "A diet high in protein." You get the idea}

{I get off track like everyone and some days eat off the menu. That's cool- I just get back on track soon thereafter. Example: last night I devoured a Caprese salad...Well, more like spinach leaves and tomato rolled up IN Mozz. cheese. BAH! Oh...and wine, but damn I needed that glass (four). I find this type of diet burns fat and adds sleek muscle quickly- Once I reach my goal I switch to (still) healthy, less restrictive recipes}

What I eat:

Breakfast: Oatmeal with cinnamon and strawberries if I have them
                   6 egg whites (Yes, 6.)
1 cup of coffee IF I'm tired (Not a huge coffee drinker)
Breakfast for me never really veers off course. It's the same thing daily
You know you like that muck.

Mid-morning snack: Some form of protein.
Example: Protein Shake. The kind I usually drink is by Parillo Performance . Their protein shakes have no sugar and a high amount of protein- which is what I'm going for. This package is something I picked up from the local health food store because I ran out of my Parillo. It's not as good to me, but it shall do.

Lunch: Protein, carb and veggies.
Example: Salmon with a sugar-free raspberry glaze, asparagus and 1/2 cup brown rice. Perfect AND delicious. Made that this week for lunches/dinners. Recipe can be found under my "EAT THIS" tab above. NOTE: For the raspberry glaze I used Sugar Free Preserves and NO butter for the asparagus, but rather Olive Oil. It's all about tweaking a recipe to make it work for YOU.

Afternoon Snack: A carb and protein.
Example: Greek Yogurt and Oatmeal. This depends on my workout schedule for that day. If I'm working out after I get off, which is usually the case, I try to get in some carbs for energy, otherwise I'll usually just grab a protein source.

Dinner: Usually same food groups as lunch minus the carb. I add WAY more veggies for dinner. OH and after my afternoon workout I have some sort of protein. Usually Skim Milk. It's the easiest thing to grab.
Example: Asian Turkey Meatballs with Lime Sauce. This recipe is under my "Eat This" tab above. It's so good. So, so good...

After Dinner Meal: Yeah, one more meal if you're hungry is OK. Gotta keep that metabolism burning! This meal SHOULD be a protein.
Example: More egg whites. Yeah. I might turn into an egg white. How awful.

I love Oxygen magazine not only for their awesome fitness tips, but their clean recipes that are satisfying AND good for you. A+ for Oxygen. What what!

Weekly Workouts:

Monday- P90X Shoulders and Arms + 30 minute jog
The first day back started out well with a fairly easy upper body workout. Upper body isn't the most fun for me, but I always feel it the next day since it's my weak body section. The jog just gave me some extra fat burn.

Tuesday- Rest Day
Ugh. Unexpected rest day here. My shoulder was really hurting me after work- I'm convinced I have some slight tear in my delt from years of weight work because every time I do upper body it tends to hurt. BLAH.

Wednesday- 15 minutes of P90X Plyometrics, 10 minutes on treadmill
Another setback day. WTF is what I'm screamin'. My fave, Plyometrics, caused me to have a sharp pain in my temple every time I landed a move or bent over. I tried to work through it, but finally had to stop after 15 minutes. I hopped on the treadmill hoping it wouldn't be so bad, but the sharp pain continued. I worked out a total of 25 minutes today. Horrendous.

Thursday- Ab Ripper+ 30 minute jog/incline fast walk
Woke up at 4:30 for a morning workout. I still have that sharp, throbbing pain sometimes in my left temple. I also feel like I may be "trying" to get sick. Nooooooo...I managed 30 minutes of incline walking (blah) and jogging at 5.0mph. Also did P90X Ab RipperX which is almost impossible for me to do- I have no strength in my core. Another goal for me. {Dear Temple: Stop being a biotch so I can actually get my ass moving. Thanks.}

Friday- ?
I didn't workout this morning and I can't promise myself that I'll feel like doing anything after work. It's been a stressful week at work and I can't shake this painful throb in my head. ugh. We'll see.
Next Friday will include this Saturday and Sunday's workout.

If there's any subject, workout moves, etc. in the area of fitness that you'd like me to feature on Friday's, please LET ME KNOW.

Have a fantastic weekend!

My attempt at a weekly blog feature post.....

I've tried several times to commit to discussing a specific topic on my blog, but FAIL. And that's.....OK (Channeling Stuart Smalley from SNL here...I hope to God you guys know who I speak of...)

I'm a multi-faceted human being, but one feature I would really like to have on a regular basis is something I have coined "Not So Slacker Friday."

After being a complete waste of space this holiday season and not working out regularly and eating whatever I felt like shoveling in my mouth at the time- I have a fresh, new breath of fitness in me. I'm ready to move again and have so much to look forward to (It only took me a month to realize, right?) this year.

"Not So Slacker Friday" is my way of rehashing my week in fitness/health. I don't usually feel like talking about my workouts, eating DAILY, so once a week is fine by me. A day where, usually, people wanna get lazy for the weekend. Nu-uh. Hopefully it'll make you want to move it MORE on the weekends.

This Friday I plan to have photos of what my typical daily meals will be like for the next few months as I jump start my body back into fat-burning-healthy mode. Also, my workouts for the week along with my "feelings" on the week's workouts...because let's face it...we all wanna talk about our feelings. haha!

It feels good to be (slightly) back in blogging mode...

How I be speaking- A Vlog

I'm blogging TWICE in ONE day.  HOT DAMN! Hope you enjoy watching my foolish self- it was fun as I have nothing else to do really.

Kelly, Keeping Up With Kelly & Co., did the fun Dialect Vlog post. She's so cute that I was convinced I needed to play along, too.

NOTE: Not sure about the color quality after uploading to YouTube. My teeth and mouth look like I drank an entire jug of red wine. HAH!! I assure you, that hasn't happened today....YET. ;-)

Read these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
And answer these questions:
•What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?

•What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?

•What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?

•What do you call gym shoes?

•What do you say to address a group of people?

•What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?

•What do you call your grandparents?

•What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?

•What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?

•What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Bored? I encourage you all to vlog as well and entertain me :)

Hi. It's me and I'm updating, so read me NOW.

Holy WOW. I'm writing a blog.

I swear I've tried to type something for the past few weeks, but every time I went to my "edit post" page I decided I didn't feel like doing that crap. So then I closed the window.

Well, here I am and I'd like to simply make a few points.....

Point 1: I'm still not completely out of my funk. Soon. I feel a change coming soon. In the meantime, I'm trying to remain positive.

Point 2: I made a resolution to only buy TWO items from Anthropologie a month, unless I had a gift card of some sort. So far, I have succeeded. I even have two cards with money on them to use- It makes me happy that Anthro has some ugly junk on their website at the moment. Oh, sure, there's still item after cute itme on my wishlist, but it's older stuff that's OUT OF STOCK. I'm stalking in hopes for a pop-back.

Point 3: Jenny likes to dance. I decided I needed "Dance Central" for Kinect and an Xbox to play it on...So, I bought it. I couldn't be happier with it. It's fun. It's hard, surprisingly. If you don't have some sort of dance background, try to do the medium skill level.....I can see how it could be somewhat of a challenge...and probably HILARIOUS. I can't wait to get my non-rhythmic friends over to play with me. Hhaha! I'm just kidding around. Geez. ;-)

Point 4: As of today, January whatever, there are TWO items I simply NEED...NEED....for Spring.

#1. Lulu Lemon's Studio Dance Pants II.
Why so I NEED these?  Well, for one look how cute they are for some "athletic" pants. Yes. I love the gray color and the shape. For two, I'm going...wait for it...SKYDIVING this Spring and I've thought long and hard about what I'll wear- between the videographer documenting it and the possible grass stain I'd receive upon landing, I decided I must invest in some sort of sports pants that were cute. Here they are.

Anyone own these?

#2. Lilly Pulitzer's Anders Dress in the print Booty Caw Caw
Witty name for the print, right? Probably why I like it. Usually I'm no  Lilly Pulitizer prep girl, whatsoever, but I love the shape of The Anders dress and this GIRLY-ass PRINT. For me, it's awesome as all get out and screams ME.

Point 5: Last point I'd like to make before slipping back into my black hole for who knows how long...........I gained about 7 pounds this past Winter/Holiday Season. I'm not worried about it. I didn't really do my running nor P90X. I blame me, obviously, but I'm not going to beat myself up for it. Life's too short. Remember that people: LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO OBSESS ABOUT 7 POUNDS!! So...that being said, I've written out my workout schedule for next week and have purchased a NEW strength training DVD to try by a Miss Jari Love. Anyone tried her weight work DVDs? I'm excited for something other than Tony Horton. He's so damn annoying.

I miss talking to all of you, truly, and it would seriously make my week if you'd leave me a comment and talk to me. K. Thanks.
HUGS! xoxo

Guest Blogger Post: Self-esteem and feeling beautiful

Excuse me, whoever or whatever- may I please get a re-do of these first days in 2011 please? THEY'VE sucked. Thanks.....or not. Things can only get better right? Yeah- I'll keep saying that. No promises that I'll believe. ;)

So, anyway- I'm still not in a blogging mood and I don't know when I will be. I'm too pissy as of now to brighten anyone's day with my beautiful and harmonious words (haha). That being said, I would like to direct you to my fellow blogger friend, Veronika. About a month ago she asked me to contribute to a feature she was doing regarding self-esteem and being comfortable with yourself. I think it's so important to speak out on this subject. I've dealt with and STILL deal with issues regarding my body, my quirks, etc. I know other women do as well. Sometimes we can feel alone in our misery and insecurities, but everyone is fighting some sort of battle in this little thing called LIFE.

Please take the time to read here.

The other women who were featured have great answers and stories as well.

I hope everyone's year is starting out better than mine. LOL.

Run and tell THAT. Homeboy. (Yes. I still obsessed with that auto-tune "Bed Intruder" in case you were wondering.)

Oh, and please watch this as well. WTF is all I gotta say. I'm cracking up. I think I'll watch this everyday until I'm smiling as usual again.

First post of 2011- Hide yo eyes!

My first week in the new year has been a stressful, down-in-the-dumps- post -holiday-blues on. I couldn't decide if I wanted to blog or not this week, but alas...I have a muse in Adam Levine. Thank you, Adam. Thank you for givign me something passionate to post about.

Adam posing for Cosmo UK to bring awareness to different forms of male parts cancer. I'm aware....(Oh. To be those hands. Just sayin')
Happy Freakin' NEW YEAR!
