Let's talk "fashion rules" (plus) my new running shoes!

Ahhh Fall.

I don't know about YOU, but I've been burning my "fall" candles, in my house, like crazy. Specifically Peppermint Bark, Pumpkin Cheesecake and Cinnamon Apple Peach scents- all from candlesbyvictoria.com. MY favorite, as I've said before (There's no comparison anymore).

So, yes...Labor Day is Monday and hopefully Fall will be right on it's heels- because frankly, I'm sick of this humidity.

Usually, especially here in the good 'ole South, women will pack up all their white clothing/shoes because WHITE IS NOT ALLOWED AFTER LABOR DAY. Or is it? You've probably heard over the past few years that the rule of "no white" has ceased and times have changed. HA! Try telling that to some people.

I, for one, will wear whatever I want, WHEN I want. I don't like being given rules and being told what I can or cannot do. Bullcrap. ;-) I'm not your traditional southern girl, apparently.

Of course I won't bust out a white tank dress or probably even white pants- but a white dress with a cute fall colored cardigan and boots? Heck yes, I will.

"This bit of folklore states, "Southern girls know bad manners when they see them," and a clear sign of bad manners is wearing white shoes before Easter or after Labor Day. Because fashions in the American South can be a little more formal than elsewhere, perhaps the no-white-shoes rule came from south of the Mason-Dixon Line? Even Star Jones (an otherwise fashion-forward Southern lady) admits that white shoes "are for Easter Sunday and not the dead of winter."

Whoa whoa wait....why are you wearing white shoes ANYWAY?? I stopped wearing white shoes when I was eight. Eww. All I see is white patent flashing before my eyes. ACK!!! haha (Ok, I DO have a pair of white ballet flats...)

So, what is your stance on this? Do you still hold true to this rule? If you do, I'm just interested to know why :-)

My new running shoes are white...and aqua :-) I tried on MORE shoes at Dick's, after a failed attempt at Fleet Feet. Here is what, after MUCH deliberation and stress to find the right shoe, I ended up with. Surprise, surprise, they're a cushioned shoe, BUT...(AH HA) also has some stability for mild overpronators (that's me!).

Asics Gel-Cumulus 11

They should be here Thursday. Anyone have these?

I'm sad the Anthropologie sale has been pushed back to Wednesday night/Thursday because of the holiday weekend. Gives me something to look forward to. lol.

Day 1 of my 22 day challenge begins tomorrow! I already have an outfit picked out. I've decided I'll share at the end of the week ALL of my weekly outfits. So for the next month, look for that on Friday's blog post.

Happy Tuesday!

I challenge myself to a fashion DUEL!!!!

Good Monday, errbody!

I made it back to work today after being sick the latter half of last week. I cannot STAND not being able to breathe and then waking up in the morning with junk in my throat. Yaknow what I'm talking about? Still have some floating around in my nasal passages, but I'm hoping it gets gone with quickness. TMI. I know.

So jumping right back in to it- has anyone seen in the fashion blogging community the 30 for 30 Challenge? Example & explantion from new challenger, KrameyMartin here.

Ok, did you go read about it? Good. Personally- I don't think doing this would curb me from spending money. I can see myself buying MORE knowing I could wear it at the end of the 30 days. BAHA! My problem? Buying clothes.....that just hang in my closet.

Also, I feel like I'd succeed this challenge immediately because truly I rotate throught the same 5 tops every week!! I KNOW!! Because it's EASY!! ARGH!!! (haha) All the clothes I own and I do this B.S. There are two main reasons why this happens:

#1. The fit may be a bit snug. As most of you know, for the past few months I've consistantly lost weight I gained as a result of living in D.C. and enjoying the food & wine a little too much. I only have 15lbs to go until I'm back at the weight I was before I moved there (GO ME!). My normal size in some things (both new and older items) is, in turn, a bit snug still. But this won't be the case in a few months. This excuse is excusable in MY eyes.

#2. I go to work. Then I go home. I'm in the public relations field- which brings to MY mind, an image of professionalism, chicness and sass. My job isn't all that glam. My main job is social media and dealing with external media. I can count on one hand the number of times I deal with people/public where I need to look spiffy. Of course, judging by my copious amounts of clothing, I like to look put-together, but it's SO easy to get into the habit of waking up in the morning, rolling out of bed and putting on black slacks and a blah top (read) I can have more time with my babies (dogs) in the morning. Most people can nix THIS excuse by telling me that it takes JUST as long to put on something nicer. Not for me. I'm picky. I'm picky to the extreme. Picky to the point where, in this situation, it's either ALL or nothing. Either I'm going to look totally RAD (haha) or just normal. I could add to this list more excuses: my hair is really thick and it takes more energy for me to straighten or curl it, I try on outfit after outfit because I think I look fat, etc., etc. etc.

I think I have an obsession/compulsion with shopping. Really. I do. People joke about having this problem, but I do. It may be a mild case- but still. Spending money all the time can't be good. Wanting this and that and buying it- isn't always awesome. Oh, but it feels aweosme!! SEE!?!

Ladies and gentlemen. My name is Jenny.....and I'm a SHOPAHOLIC.

So, I've decided to try a challenge of my own for 30 days. Well, technically, 22 (work days).

Wednesday, September 1 to Thursday September 30 I will only wear black pants ONCE a week.

Yeah. You read that right. Only ONCE. This will force me to wear all the other clothes in my closet. I think. lol

So, tell me-

1. How do you go about picking your school/work outfits? Are you a lazy ass like me, or more put together? :-)

2. Do you choose an outfit the night before or that morning?

3. Is anyone else in the same boat as me and have stuff hanging in their closet that's never been worn for one reason or another?

Answer me. I really want to know. (hehehe)

Did anyone watch the Emmy's last night? I always get sucked into watching award shows of pretty much any sort- I especially loved Jewel singing her song "Hole in My Heart." I've never heard it before last night and unexpectedly, made me cry a few tears. Her lyrics have always impressed me (Pieces of Me is still one of my favorite albums). She truly is an AMAZING songwriter. Google it. It's such a heart-felt song to listen to. Love it. I leave you with the lyric that just about had me crying like a baby.

Just a quick re-blog

I've posted about this before, and recently saw this issue come up again on another blog I follow. So here it goes, here it goes, here it goes again (song insert!). I'm going to lie back down, as I still feel pretty BLAH with sickness. I did get some meds, though, so crossing fingers for a quick bounce-back:

"So....something I wish I had known about a loooong time ago, thanks to gorgeous Brittany- that I am now passing along to all of YOU to make all of our lives here on blogger a simpler one :-)

If you're like me- I get e-mail notifications when someone replies to a blog entry of mine. Usually, I'll read the e-mail, delete it and then come back to my blog later and reply to everyone in the comment section myself...

I couldn't figure out an easier way- but then realized...what if they never come back to read the comment I left for them!?! SAD DAY!! I love hearing from you guys and want to answer you ASAP. Here's how you can fix that!

For the longest time I didn't add my e-mail address to my profile- just because I didn't want anyone to have it. Uh. Why? I dunno. I guess I thought it'd be "safer" that way. But it's just e-mail. If I notice something not from blogger, I'll delete. Bye-bye-bye spam/possible virus.

Anyway- if you all will follow these steps below, and add your e-mail address, the blogger you leave a comment for can respond back directly to YOU and it'll come to your e-mail.

Something so small makes me so happy...

Listen up- There's a new chick on the block....

Her name is Chiva! Meet the new addition to my little family.
I adopted her from a vet/shelter in Georgia after seeing her on petfinder.com. I really wanted Brady to have a friend, someone to wear his butt down during the day so I could sleep at night.
She's about 1 year old and such a sweet baby girl. She was a little timid at first, but in only 5 days I can really tell she's come out of her shell.

She was spayed the Thursday before I picked her up, which I was a little peeved about. it made things worse for her and myself once I got her home. She couldn't jump up or play around. Today, she's wild to say the least!

Her and Brady really hit it off, but I don't think my plan of keeping Brady awake during the day is going to work.........

Oh, you're just gonna LOVE this OOTD

Hiiiiiiiii Guysssssss!!

Had an important event to work today- so naturally, I mustered up some extra effort and cleaned myself up all nice like this morning. HA! That niceness lasted about 30 minutes.

Here's my gorgeous "Outfit of The Day" by 9:00 a.m.

Nope. That's not water. That, my friends....is SWEAT.

I seriously had sweat rolling down parts of my body I didn't KNOW I had. I sweated more this morning than I ever do running!! Seriously. I know you'd like to think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. I'll debate anyone who says somewhere else is more humid than lower Alabama. Maybe near the swamps in Florida, but don't be complaining. Be glad you don't look like this. haha!

I saw reviews for this dress and judging from them- this dress seems to show sweat REALLY bad. Ya think? Honestly, it was all worth it. I had such a great time today and felt cute, sweat and all!

Here I am! I thought I'd try to smile through my grossness and the puckering on my boob. That's another thing about this dress...that pucker looks really tacky right there in the center of my boob. Hha! If ya get what I'm saying...
Dress: Mint Green Dress from Target
Cardigan: Old Navy
Flats: Nine West
Last thing for today- I forgot to show you all my new sunglasses!! I LOVE them and so happy I watch LOST and saw them on Evangeline Lily in the episode "Eggtown". *sigh* The sides are my favorite- how the silver arm swoops down on the side and not just straight across.

Here I am acting like I'm working. Not sure why I thought I had to act- the sunglasses inside part probably gave that away.......

FRIDAY TOMORROW! In case you forgot.

Anthropologie Sale Scores & LOFT dress return

A great BIG thank you to everyone who commented on my running shoe shopping disaster post. I'll let you all know what I buy when that time comes!

For now....let's talk Anthropologie Sale Day! I called my closest (3 HOURS away) Anthropologie store last week to buy the Camilla Dress and have it shipped to me- my size sold out online last week, and I KNEW it had to be hitting sale soon. Good thing I did! It was one of the sale items today- so this means I get a price adjustment for the sale price. I absolutely love Anthro's return/price adjustment policy!
I also scooped up the Rise-and-Fall Cardigan in the blue, which also hit sale today:

That's it. There are several sale items on my wishlist at the moment, but I'm trying to refrain until next Tuesday to see what goes on sale.

So, I had a follower ask me to post photos of the pink polka dotted LOFT dress I bought and hated so I'm returning- She'd like to see the fit, so here it is. It's UG-LEE on me. I hope you have better luck with it because the ruffles and pink polka dots are darling. I wish the waist cut had been different on me. :-( Not flattering at ALL in my opinion.

It was too blousy up top, which made my entire figure look dumpy. Goes to show you that baggy is NOT cute. I guess I could have sized down, but then it woulda been too tight around the hips. GOOD riddance, dress.

Taking today off from running- I am exhausted! I barely slept last night for a few reasons. Can't wait until Friday so I can catch up on my beauty sleep. ZZZzzzzzzz......

Running Shoe Blues

A blog or two entries ago, I briefly mentioned my new running shoe buying fail.

I need some advice. Seriously. Any advice you runners have, tell me.

I went to Fleet Feet, had my gait looked at and foot measured, yadda yadda. The Sales Associate stuck me in some Stability shoes- she said, which I already knew from my self-analysis, I slightly overpronated. Cool. So I was hoping she'd put me into a shoe that could correct this issue for when I run, but be comfy. Every shoe I tried on I didn't like. I ran outside in about 8 pair. No, it wasn't a long run- just up and back down the sidewalk. None were comfortable to me- They made my legs and shins feel like they were being pounded on with every step. WTF?!

I did the wet-foot test at home where you can see the type arches you have. I have normal arches, which look like the "Normal" foot on the far left.
Supposedly, this type of foot needs a Stability shoe- which 'ole girl put me in and that I didn't like.

According to this, and several other charts online:

STABILITY (LOW TO NORMAL ARCHES)
Recommended for runners who are mild to moderate overpronators and who generally have low to normal arches. These runners tend to need a shoe with a combination of good support and midsole cushioning.

Suggested Stability Shoes:
• Brooks Adrenaline 10
• Mizuno Nirvana 6
• Mizuno Inspire 6
• New Balance 1225
• New Balance 760
• Nike Equalon+ 3
• Nike Structure+ 13
*This sounds perfect for what I need, right? I don't even know if she put me in any of these because she didn't tell me any of the names- damn.

CUSHIONED (NEUTRAL - NORMAL TO HIGH ARCHES)
Recommended for runners who need maximum midsole cushioning and minimum medial support. These shoes are best for biomechanically efficient runners (minimum pronation) and midfoot or forefoot strikers with high or normal arches.

Suggested Neutral Shoes:
• Brooks Glycerin 7
• Mizuno Wave Rider 13
• New Balance 1064
• Nike Vomero+ 4
• Nike LunarGlide+
• Nike Pegasus+ 26
* Let's be real. I'm not little. I'm 5'10 and weigh over 170 pounds. I need cushioning for all that weight surging into my poor feet. This kind of shoe would seem to help with that.

I have cushioning shoes now. Adidas Bounce, here. I really like the cushion and "spring" they give me. My knee used to REALLY hurt me a year and a half ago when I would run. I don't have pain in my ankles, shin or knees anymore since I started 10 miler training 4 months ago- and I think this may simply be because I've gotten smarter with my running since a year ago (i.e. more stretching, taking care, etc.- and I'm running more miles these days, no knee pain.) The SA suggested that if my current shoes aren't hurting me, don't try to fix what's not broken.

So what should I do? Should I try a shoe that is suggested for my arch/gait type, or simply stick with the ones I have?

An athletic trainer friend of mine ALSO told me that if my shoes I currently run in don't give me problems to stick with them....Hee hee- a small part of me just likes the thought of a new and different pair of running shoes.

I can always return the shoes if I end up not liking them, I guess, but who wants that hassel.

So, people who run- what do you run in (ANY OF THOSE MENTIONED ABOVE?) and what is your foot type? What do YOU suggest?

Happy Monday. It's a muggy one here in Alabama today. Surprise, freakin', Surprise.

What in the world is in that bag, whatchoo got in that bag??

Luda love.

Thanks Gen for saying I'd be fun to shop with. If by fun you mean cursing under my breath and whining because I can't yank a damned piece of clothing back up over my head- then yes. I'm a barrel of monkeys fun! ;-)

Ever have that happen? A store doesn't have your usual size so you improvise by trying on a smaller size? Great idea! May not fit, but goes on at least. But then....you try to said top/dress off over your head, it gets stuck because the damn thing is too small- At first, you're standing really still- arms hanging all out of the arm holes, all up in the air. Then you realize you HAVE to do something, anything to prevent having to ask a sales associate or stranger for help because you're stuck. So you jerk and yank and when it doesn't budge you start to really panic. You stop yanking only to catch your breath and go "UHHhhhahh!!!!" Now you're sweating.

Wait. Does this only happen to me? Whatever.

No, really. Thanks, Gen. Let's go shopping!

One more fitting room review:

Lacey Lanes Tank- I hearted this, too! Lots of bloggers reviewed it as not-cool, didn't work for them. I'm glad I tried it, because I thought it was very cute! It's in my bag. I should probably buy it soon because it's on sale.

So what was in all those boxes?

First up: Sephora
I needed my daily brown eyeshadow: Urban Decay in Smog
Second, I picked up the gift set for curly hair: Living Proof
Finally, I needed free shipping so I added lip gloss: Buxom in Amber
Free Samples

And because I'm a V.I.B Beauty Insider, I got this free bag full of freebies. Who doesn't love free beauty junk?!

In this pile we have, from left:
- Blue Cardigan via Talbot's
- Replacement cardigan from J. Crew. remember the one that got a hole in the armpit for NO good reason? That was nice of them.
- Green A-line skirt from Talbot's
- Polka Dotted pink dress from LOFT that is being returned ASAP. UG-LEE.
The green Talbot's skirt paired with a top bought from overstock. I like them both. It looks plain together here, but I can see it with a cardigan and accessories. Both keepers.
What wasn't a keeper? This monstrosity from overstock.com by Pure Sugar. Good God. Its just OK from the front.....but, uh...I didn't know know WINGS were in style.
(BAHAH! Dear God, make me a bird, so I can fly far. far, far away)

I also returned a few items to Anthro that added up to $261 bucks! Yeah. I know. Two of those packages by my front door were:

The Tea & Sweets dress (on sale!) and really loved it- I never even wish listed it. In real life the details and colors are so beautiful. They didn't have the size I needed in store so the SA was nice enough to have it shipped from the Huntsville, Alabama store. It arrived two days later and here it is.
It's a little big up top and on the side. See the extra fabric I'm pulling on? Other than that it fits wonderfully and I can't wait to wear it/style it! I'm going to have that big bit tailored.

The In A Twinkling Dress is known around the Anthropologie blogging community as being itchy and scratchy. I can see that, but when I tried it on I realized that I've had on itchier. I loved it. I loved it too much NOT to buy it, especially it being on sale. They didn't have my size either, but the website had the next size up. I bought the 12 from the website, but I'm thinking my boobies may need the 14, which was out of stock at the time.

I still have about $40 on my merchandise return card- and I have a feeling that Camilla Dress will be going on sale soon.........

Did I mention I also went to Fleet Feet to get new running shoes? Well, I did. It was an epic FAIL. I must have tried on 8 or 10 pairs and ended up with nothing. For you runners out there, you know all about gait, etc. The sales associate said I had a slight over pronation- so she had me try on a gazillion, stupid stability type running shoes. I hated every single one. There wasn't enough cushion- My shins hurt from just the test runs I did outside the store. I ended up with nothing except a pair of nice, white socks. They're gorgeous. Muahah.

I'm going to stick with the Adidas Bounce shoes. That's the pair I own now and have never really had issues with them. If it ain't broke- don't fix it, ok?!

Have a great weekend!!!! :-)

I'm back- and I have Anthropologie fitting room reviews!

I decided to snap some photos and do some small fitting-room reviews from my Anthropologie visit. This won't happen again for a long ass time, so embrace it. Love it.

I got to the store Monday around 11 a.m. I wanted to get there semi-early to avoid a lot of shoppers. It wasn't too bad and I scrambled from one rack to the next- I'm sorry, this may sound ridiculous to some, but I get overwhelmed in Anthro. I seriously never know where to start looking and get all flustered.

I ended up with 35 items in my dressing room. Yes, 35. And in case you're curious to see what THAT looks like.....

Behold...that which was my dungeon-esque fitting room

Somehow I managed to breathe amongst that hoarding of clothes. I was more sad because my photo quality turned out looking really shitty.

A. The lighting was AWFUL.
B. No flash=blurry-ness.
C. The angle I had to hold my camera made me look like a bobble-head. My boobs being the bobbled part. lol You'll see. I look weirdly proportioned. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Camilla Dress- I've had this on my Anthropologie wishlist for months. It needs to hit sale pronto. It fit great. But, honestly I'm not sure why I look extremely wide in the hip area in this photo. Moving on...

Walkway Dress- I'm having a hard time understanding why I look like I'm thrusting my hips forward and slouching down in this picture. LOL. These photos are making me laugh. Feel free to laugh along.
It's A Cinch top under Graphite Pop Cardigan- I was just trying on the randoms in the dressing room and I actually loved this combo. The colors go well together. The top was VERY baggy and loose and I didn't like the way it looked on its own, but paired witht he cardigan I'd consider buying both items.
Molded & Melded Tee- I LOVED this top. The color and ruffly things. Everything about it. It fit me well. The photo shows some growth on the right side. I asure you that isn't there in real life. Note to self: Don't ever go into this particular dressing room EVER again. I'm convinced the mirror belonged in a fun house at some time or another.
Biker Melange Jacket- I wasn't about to be caught dead trying this thing on. I picked up the Cafe Racer jacket first and the SA gave this to me to try as well. She thought it was cute. I must admit, it's a hell of a lot cuter on. The big flappy collar kinda threw me off on the hanger, but on, it works. It would look cute with the right top, bottoms, etc.

Breezy Polkas Cardigan- Loved the color and the sheer ribbon detailing. Red is one of my favorite colors to wear because it's so bold, and I think it looks great with my dark hair. Definitely wishlisted this cardigan for sale time.

Cafe Racer Jacket- I loved, loved this leather jacket. The 5 reviews online so far aren't outstanding, but I'd definitely give it 4 stars. Unfortunately by this time my camera battery was dying no me, so I got no photo. :-( It was darling, though! MUST HAVE for me.

Are you ready for more hilarity on this Thursday afternoon?

Curlytop Cardigan- Check me out. Trying to squeeze my forearms into this size medium cardigan. The bitch (yes, I called a cardigan a bitch, as it was definitely one at the time of my trying on) runs small. They didn't have a large in any color of this cardigan at the store, so I went with the largest they had...HA! I think, judging from the way this fit I may need an XL. Online the ruffles look really juvenille, but in real life I thought it was perfect. Loved this cardigan.

NSFW clevage shot: Hidden Valley Top- Rest assured....that this top- Hides not a thing. I first tried on my regular size Large. Too big. I couldn't figure out how the draping worked and why it was cascading halfway down my chest. I tried on a medium and even a small and it was still ugly and dumb. This top is stupid. haha

Yay something that worked and I didn't have to try on!

What I came home to. I guess everything I ordered online came at once. Christmas in August!!

That's all I have, guys. Thanks for reading about my ridiculous dressing room story. :-)

Shopping in an ACTUAL Anthropologie store

The only thing I have to talk about this week is the fact that Monday-Wednesday of next week I'll be heading out of town....and....I get to shop IN Anthropologie and not just via a computer screen. It's been almost an entire year since I've stepped foot in the store which saddens me because the atmosphere of the place is one thing I love most about the company. Seriously. Where I live/moved to doesn't have jack-shit, and I shop online like nobody's business.
I plan on going buck-wild and trying on anything I can on my wishlist so I'll know if I TRULY want it or not. See the little things you take for granted? Like a close-by Anthropologie store.

I have some things to return- including the yellow Shadow-Sleeve Cardigan, which I mentioned in my last post, seen here:

I really loved it, but it felt kinda baggy and looser than I'd like. I bought a large so I'd like to try a Medium. And the color? Yeah, not so much the yellow I wanted. It's more green-yellow. GAG. Ha! Good fall color, but I was hoping for more GOLD-yellow. Moving on....

I'm having a rough time deciding if I like The Traced Twirls Dress. I've had it for about a month now, bought it full price ($138!!) and haven't made up my mind if I want to keep it or exchange. I love the concept, the cut, but in some ways, I think the cut doesn't flatter me. I love the neckline and the full skirt, but where the hell would I wear this? A damn 50s sock-hop? Yeah. Newsflash: we don't have those anymore.

[Heart this pink hidden ruffle with all my heart!]

I think I'm more in love with the THOUGHT of owning this dress and not exactly wearing it. Plus the tiny peek of pink slip makes me pout my lip and hang it back up in my closet- because it's so damn CUTE! I need to be honest with myself- I'll probably never wear it and I'm sure I can find something I WILL wear to exchange it with.

Say bye-bye to my closet, Traced Twirls Dress :-(

See you all in 4 days or so. have a great week!
