Ruffled, pintucked and modern....

I think the title can sum up the feel I want for my next house project- that sodding guest room that's currently the computer/exercise room.

I need HELP. Usually I'm good at deciding things for decor, but I just need more opinions and hear what you all have to say and WHY. Here are some photos (some you've seen in earlier posts):

First, an easy decision. I want this pillow win my life, on the bed, no matter WHAT. So..just admire as you skip along past this :-)

I've decided I wanted something neutral, calming and timeless. I've narrowed the duvets/comforters down to two colors: Either a gray or a blue. Out of of these four, which do you all like the MOST and why?

So moving on to window treatments. I want the room to have a statement piece, and these Waterfall Ruffled Curtains from Urban Outfitters (here) are IT. I love this yellow and the aqua blue. I think both go well with gray and aren't TOO, too bold or obnoxious. Any opinion on which color? The second photo is a shower curtain, but the blue looks just like the yellow. Go look on the website...If not these colors...which one?

I'd also like to get an upholstered headboard for the bed frame- to tie everything in nicely, wall art, white leaning bookcase, etc.

I'll be taking before photos soon....Thanks for the help!

Monday OOTD

So I have this little outfit of the day (Yes, I hopped up on the treadmill for better viewing of the entire outfit. HAHA! Excuse my "just woke up" half-smile, aiyt?)

Dress- Anthropologie Lithe Dress lifted off E-bay two years ago (Anyone know the name, out of curiosity.)
Shoes on my big ass feet- Urban Outfitters
Necklace- Francesca's Boutique
Cardigan- NY and Co.

I wear cardigans a lot to work. Sometimes I think a little too much, but seriously? This is the only way I can wear my spaghetti strap dresses. I love this dress- the color blocking, the colors themselves, the fit! I usually wear this sans the cami underneath- I just like the look better.

What'd you wear today? I wish commenters could leave photos in their comments and show their own outfits of the day, or whatever else- is this possible?

The dress I want is back in stock at Anthro. And I'm broke. DAMN. Is anyone in the loan business?? ;-)

BUSY week this week at work- I have to work Saturday, as well, for our 4th of July celebration. I do public affairs for a military base. What are your plans for the 4th? I cannot believe it's that time again already- This past year has flown by like crazy!

While you think about what you did over the past 6 months, go enter this fabulous giveaway hosted by Kitchen Belleicious! GORGEOUS pieces of jewelry, homemade!

I Love You Lorelei

Funny Story: I didn't run my first 5K today after all. Why? Because the electricity must have flickered last night because I woke up 30 minutes before the race to my clock flashing. haha- Oops. The drive to the race was a few towns over so I couldn't get there in time- I called my Mom who was closer and made her run it. She won a freaking MEDAL in her category. Hilarious! Welp, guess I'll have to wait on that 5K.......

I'm seriously loving J. Crew's Lorelei dresses. LOVE it. When I first saw them online I thought those pleats in the front would NO doubt make me look huge and add bulk- but they actually are flattering! If you remember I have this dress in aqua blue, which I wore to the rehearsal dinner of my BFF:
I picked up the Lorelei in this blue print from the sale. It's SO adorable! This is definitely a work dress as well. You can't tell it's blue until I get in natural light. I was so excited to find the box on my doorstep that I flung my hair up and started trying everything on- I didn't buy anything with the intent on wearing them together....but I'm thinking I just might!

Can't you just see how pleased I am with my selections?

Love the blue and lavender!

(Please excuse my in-much-need-of-a-pedicure feet)

Running update + Clothing reviews

Yesterday I jogged 1.5 miles. LOL- What. A. Joke. I mostly think it's because I'm just not fueling myself correctly beforehand. It's hard for me to eat when I'm NOT hungry. Grrr. Saturday is my first 5K. Everyone pray that I don't pass out. Mmkay. Thanks.

Here's a quick review of a few things I purchased online lately...

First up: J. Crew's Bow Monde Dress in black.

I've had this thing wishlisted for months now and finally bought it. I needed a formal black dress and that big huge bow thing on the front actually called my name...Too bad it was too tight in the stomach area. *sigh*. That's my body for ya. I knew it'd be a challenge with this dress because of the way the skirt fits. It's pretty straight- and straight skirted dresses don't look good on me. I've been consistently losing weight- that's a plus. And I know I'll lose more. This dress, other than the fact it's too tight- and it's a size freaking *16*- (Nothing wrong with that, but my normal dress size is a 12/14, ladies. Uhm....) meaning I can't go up a size- it's gorgeous. I love the fabric and the chic-ness of it. With pearls? Yup. To die for in my opinion. J. Crew has a 60 day return policy. I think I'm gonna hang it in my closet and use it for motivation. If in 55 days I still look shitty in it, back it goes.... ;-)

E-bay Find: Anthropologie Reed Shirtdress in green.

I just gotta say....these next pictures make me snicker and shake my head. Love the wrinkles, right? BAHA!!

LOVE the green with my coloring. LOVE the fit at the bottom. Do NOT love the fact that my boobs are popping some buttons left and right..."Loosen up mah buttons babe, UH HUH..." It pissed me off this did. The sleeves are tight as CRAP. The buttons won't button. I'm sad. See my face. lol. I'm keeping it around like the first dress, however. In time, we'll use this as a guide to see how much my upper body shrinks....Because this dress would be supah cute with some nude slingbacks and a statement necklace.
(P.S. Not wearing a bra. BAH! Oops)
(nice bra hanging out in the background, Jenny.)
Anyone ever hang on to an item of clothing they just really love in hopes that it'll fit better once you lose weight/tone?

I'm so thankful today is Friday- I have no plans this weekend and that's a relief because frankly, I'm tired. :-) Hope you all have a nice weekend.

I'll be back Saturday to let you know how the race went and more reviews- I have a second shipment from J. Crew on the way from the big Sale!

Happy Friday!

Giveaway winner+ Re-programming your fashion mindset + OOTD

Congrats again to Lisa. She was the winner of the $25 Anthropologie gift card. She deserved it, so she can thank random.org for generating her number. lol. I had created a blog entry a few days ago with a template for the "winner blog entry"- so it's showing up as written a few days ago. wtf. I, obviously, wasn't thinking. Anyway...

The past few weeks I've been purging my closet of thing I don't need or want anymore- plus my new clothing/shoes need room to grow ;-) As I've looted through everything I've noticed some things about my style:

#1. It's slowly changed. It's ALWAYS changing. One day I'm all about the classic look and the next, gimmie some girly ruffles and vintage. If someone asked me to describe my style in one word, I honestly don't know what that'd be.

#2. I like bright, "original" pieces. I used to own nothing but brown, blue and black. One day my Mom pointed this fact out to me and ever since then I've steered clear of black if the item was offered in another color. A "friend" of mine, Hayden (he's a dude. Straight dude) once told me that although black is sexy on a woman, it's nice to see some color, too...And I like some off-beat items because they're JUST different.

ANYWAY, my point. I don't own a dressy black dress NOR a basic black work dress. I have this jersey, quarter length sleeved black dress:

Work? Yes, I've worn this to work and out with the girls for dinner, but...it's just not dressy enough- and who KNOWS when I'll be invited to a Little Black Dress Gala by George Clooney...but if and when I am...I need to be prepared people!! I decided I need to re-program how I shop sometimes- and buy "basics"- I NEVER buy basics. Ever. You'll never see me picking up a solid colored top with nothing on it. And never will. I love embellishments, prints and froo-froo shit. But I do need more "staples". At least updated staples....(i.e. new pencil skirts, white button down blouses, etc.)

What about any of you? Do you see a trend in the things you pick up, and if SO, do you go for the basics or more statement pieces with personality? What could your wardrobe use more of?

Here's an outfit for the day- That Calvin Klein Dress I sooo longed for. I found it for cheap on overstock.com!! I love it. I understand horizontal stripes aren't the most flattering, but I love it. I love the sweetheart neckline. The dress isn't work appropriate- more like summer/evening get-togetherish. I didn't wear this out, just trying it on :-) I slipped on my Guess Gold/brown shoes just for kicks. Love them. Perfect heel height!

We got some castles...oh, and some lakes- OOTD

I have another Outfit Of The Day post- I'm so proud when I get time to do snap some pictures before work!

Today I wore Anthropologie's Castle Lake Dress. This is a medium. SUCKER RUNS BIG.
Do I like the dress? Yes. Do I like that the way I'm standing makes me look pregnant? Negative. LOL. It's a flattering dress in real life, however.

The only thing I wish different would be the top- On Anthropologie's site (if you're an obsessed fan like me), you know they styled it BACKWARDS on the model, with the keyhole back in front.
Well, That would have been ultra flattering, yes- but you can't take out the straps and restring them the other way. So to wear the keyhole in the front, you'd have to wear the big, thick, straps in FRONT. NOT cute IMO.

Close-up of my go-to brown sandals/shoes for work. Comfortable and CUTE! Thank you, Nine West.

Don't forget the giveaway ends tonight at midnight! So excited to announce the winner tomorrow :-)

Lucky lady!

I bet you do. (LOL)

Winner of my first blog giveaway- $25 Anthropologie Gift Card.

Thanks to EVERY single one of you who entered. I wish I could give you all a gift card, I do :-)

I'm up and running & Anthropologie Sale Day

It's 5:00 a.m. and I'm UP before work for my run! For those you who haven't followed me very long, I'm "training" for the Army 10-miler race in October in D.C., my former place of residence. *sigh* I miss it some days. Others.....not really. It was a fun time and a great place to live off the government's dime...If I had to pay to live there- I'd be broke always.

I'm supposed to be meeting a friend of mine who's also running the race- but she's not answering my texts...Hmmm....Someone still asleep? I think SO. LOL. I'll just hop on the treadmill if that's the case....

Anthropologie SALE DAY- Did anyone score anything good? Leave me a post with the goods you snagged this morning! I'm truly happy nothing on my wishlist went to sale today- I went a little buckwild at J. Crew's 30% off Sale Price, yesterday. *yikes* When that shipment comes in I'll show what I bought.....Sale ends tomorrow, so hurry!

I'm off for my run! Have a great Tuesday....

Update as of 7:22 a.m.- The Alabama hot and humidity got to me this morning. I know I slowed my friend down with running, even though she says I didn't and that we're "doing this together". LOL- We only got in 1.8.......

Outfit From Some-Other Day....

Here's my outfit from Saturday- a little late? Yeahhh. However, better late than never! I hardly ever post outfits of the day because I rarely ever dress, what I would consider, "cute" for work- unless I know I'll be out in the public eye. I usually throw on some basic black pants or skirt and a blah top. I save my getting cute for the weekend.

I've worn this before, so if you've seen my outfit of the day from a few months ago, you'll recognize it- it's just a comfortable go-to dress. I went to an engagement party Saturday afternoon...

Stamp Art Dress, Anthropologie- On Sale $79
Shoes- Carlos Santana, DSW- Old
Jackie Cardigan, Mint Green, J. Crew

Don't forget to enter my giveaway if you haven't already- Contest ends THIS Wednesday, June 23. Enter here.

I'm hoping some of you will be able to lend me some advice on something- Long story short: I'm looking to invest in a DSLR camera. By asking around and doing my own research, I've narrowed my selection down to either Canon's EOS Rebel T1i or T2i, or Nikon's D5000. These are in the range I'd like to spend and seem like the best bang for my buck. Have any of you used or own either of these camera's? Thoughts? Please let me know, as I want to purchase in the next few days.

:-)

It's Friiiiday!!!!! Dress heavy post...

I'm so glad so many of you are participating in my first giveaway- I'm so excited about the prize and can't wait to see who wins next Wednesday- I made it longer than a week to give more peopke a chance to enter. There's not a TON fo people right now, which works in y'alls favor, however ;-)

Question for all you fashion queens out there- Do you get as disappointed as I do when those dresses or gorgeous stiletto pumps you've stalked for MONTHS suddenly go out of stock in your size??

This happens a lot with Anthropologie shopping online. You almost can't even wait for a high-priced popular item to go on sale or else it'll be long gone.

I've had to get a lot of my Antho faves from e-bay months/years after the fact. Just recently I found a Floreat top I had been lusting over since 2008! I found it in my size via e-bay and it's still just as lovely, although the feeling of "new and exciting" has passed.

Or how about when you're broke and suddenly something gets slashed beyond belief to a low sale price....you can't buy the damn thing, because, well...you po'. And it's SUCH a good price...This happens a lot with Macy's clothing for me.

Do any of you use e-bay to search for long-lost items that have slipped through your hands? What's something you've found that you missed out on (Anthro or otherwise)?
Anthropologie's Graphical Dress in Blue is one of my "Damn-it! Sold Out" items. I'm hoping it'll pop back up soon so I can snag it! The other color the dress comes in, orangy-coral, is pretty, but I' already have a coral-y ish dress- plus the blue is Auburn colors...and if you're from Alabama, you know that you're either an Auburn or Alabama fan...I'm really neither, but in order to keep from being hung...I choose Auburn. Shhh....
Also- anyone ever buy this Anthropologie throw-back Dolan dress, called "Ascend Dress"? I really like the way it looks, but not sure about the fit. Seems like it's run too big & blousy on top...Lemme know!
I'm a little late, but I snagged Anthropologie's Reed Shirtdress in green off e-bay! Hope it works- if not, you guys get first dibs!

If anyone hasn't heard of "Hems and Hers" custom made dresses/skirts by Caroline, then you need to! Her blog is here.

You can order a customized dress with any strap, style, fit you can think of!
I haven't purchased anything from her yet, but her work looks so freakin' cute! Usually the Lily-esque dresses aren't my style, but I think everyone should have one of every kind of style(except spandex) in their wardrobe! I saw this print and it has turquoise in it....and paired witht he green it looks so cute! So immediately I knew I needed it, only not strapless- with the girly ONE ruffle strap as seen on the pink dress below it....

Running Update: After 1.5 week hiatus, I finally got my butt back on the treadmill and knocked out my usual 3 miles. This weekend I have a 3 mile run planned and also my "long" 4 miles on Sunday. This coming week my goal is to complete 4.5 miles for one of my runs- and my FIRST 5K is NEXT Saturday!!! Wish me luck!!

Small, Small blog sale!

Before I post these to e-bay I wanted to post them on my blog in case any of you wanted to snag them. LOL! They aren't anything special- and I still like the items, but I try to go by the rule of "Buy one item, sell/get rid of another" in my closet. it makes things less....clutter-fied!

Please comment or e-mail me if you're interested! I use Paypal :-)

Got a small/medium sized dog? They need clothes!! Brady has outgrown these. He's a 6.5 pound Chihuahua, but has a bigger ribcage- LOL!- All 3 for $8

Forever 21 Button Polo Top- Size Large- $8
This top is Large but you know F21- it runs SMALL. Look at it! This would definitely fit a medium.

The Limited Top- Size Large- $10
Again, this top would fit a Medium OR Large size. Nice material, cute gathered middle on top. Looks cute with grey pants.

Get out mah FACE!!

I've been meaning to post my foundation routine for so long now- While doing my make-up for the wedding last weekend I decided it was time- I was so pleased with how my make-up turned out for that day, even in the 100 degree heat and humidity, it inspired me! I'd love to know all of your routines as well, so feel free to tell me :-)

Let's begin.

For starters, I usually don't use any sort of face primer. I've tried Smashbox's primer before and just felt like it did nothing amazing for me. I did, however, pick up the exact same primer in the green formula, which is marketed to combat redness. Sometimes my cheeks and fo-head get red-ish as the day goes along and this stuff works pretty well at masking that. If I don't use that, then I'm most likely picking up my Mac's Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone. The older I get the more my pores on my inner cheeks get bigger it seems. Jerks.

This stuff REALLY works at filling in those tiny spaces- I'd recommend this product to anyone who wants a more even foundation application.

Next: The Foundation. I currently alternate between three brands/types of foundation. Also, for reference, I have combination skin- dry around the cheeks, nose and slightly oilier on chin, nose, forehead.

For all foundation I use a brush to apply. I used to use my fingers- and still do for when I'm getting ready in the morning because it's quick and easy! A brush, for me, applies the make-up heavier and provides more coverage, which I like for special events, occasions, etc. Heavier make-up never bothers me and I SO love the airbrushed look, if it's "natural." Meaning blended evenly and the right shade.

I use MAC's 109 Small Contour Brush. This isn't branded for foundation, but I used to be an AVID watcher of all YouTube make-up guru's and several raved about application with this smaller brush. I've never used a stippling or flat foundation brush, but I wouldn't switch now- I'm too happy with this one!

The information below is simply my opinion, so take it how you will.

#1: MAC's Studio Fix Fluid
My Color:NC40
Coverage: Heavier side

This is the foundation I used for the wedding seen in this photo. This is probably the one I grab when I'm going out and wanna look "smoking;" ;-) It applies heavy, even with a light hand- but you're skin looks FLAWLESS. I'm wearing it in this photo as well- along with some sweat, so keep that in mind- ha!:

#2: Make Up Forever's Mat Velvet+
My Color: I forgot. It's a 40 something number.
Coverage: Medium- heavy

I wear this to work every day. I use my fingertips and blend small dots. It works well, but by the end of the day I can tell it's wearing off. That's not to say it always does that, but definitely seems to fade quicker than MAC's. If I use a brush and more product it stays PUT and I've gotten several compliments when I've worn this. It really does mattify those oiler spots on my face. I buy mine from Sephora!

#3: Natural FX Water Based Foundation
My Color: Can't remember either. Oops.
Coverage: Light-Heavy

I bought this after I got an itch for something new to try- this was what the Sephora sales associate suggested. I told her I liked the full coverage look and she directed me to Natural FX's water based foundation. According to her- this was first used for burn victims to cover up their scars and burns. I TRULY love the way this foundation looks when applied with my brush- but since it's water based (better for your skin!) I notice that it melts fast, and it's so ODD, but it MAKES my skin feel wet and oily sometimes. :-/ Everyone is different though, and the great thing about this product is its diversity to be applied light or heavy.

After I apply my foundation I like to use some sort of loose powder to set the face. The two I own are Make Up Forever's HD Powder and Smashbox's Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder. I use a kabuki brush for both powders.

#1: MUFE HD Powder
"Sets the foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. This 100% mineral silica powder softens the appearance of imperfections. Completely evens out the complexion for a glowing, radiant look. One universal shade for all skin tones."

I agree. I like the stuff and it for sure mattifies my face, but I feel like I tend to get oily when I use this? May just be in my mind. The HD factor? Not sure about that. I don't notice any high-definition coverage going on. Not sure I'd re-purchase this, but it's at LEAST worth trying once!

#2: Smashbox Halo Powder

This is a - and I quote- "multi-tasking makeup that provides sheer coverage and delivers anti-aging benefits- the formula contains 48 bio-available minerals, 11 amino acids, a powerful peptide and Smashbox's patented hydrogel technology for sustained release of moisture.......Alright- whatever they just said. LOL! I like it. It comes in 3 shades (light, medium and dark). I have medium and it blends very well with my foundations and skin color.

I love the packaging and how you can control the amount of powder that comes out of the teeny holes! I used this for the wedding and more often than not. It makes my complexion look stellar, I think!

This is usually where I'm finished and I apply my blush, eye shadow and lip color/gloss. For BFF's wedding and a few trial runs beforehand, I used this product, CS Super Sealer, which I read about from the gorgeous and make-up talented, Andi @ Saltwater Dreams. She used this with her make-up on her wedding day and I was very impressed- even through heat, her make-up looked FANTASTIC!

So I picked up a bottle. It claims it inhibits sweat if used under make-up and keeps make-up in place when spritz on top after application.....I agree with the latter. For me- the sweat kept coming. My forehead beads up like you wouldn't believe! If I could afford botox up there to stop the sweating, I would! Sometimes I even use....get ready....deodorant on my forehead to combat sweat. Yeah. It's true.

Anyway, this stuff works wonders at keeping your makeup in place, though! I spritzed some on my BFF and myself before the wedding and I think our makeup looked great well into the evening. She liked it!
If this makes sense: when I spray it on, my face feels tighter for a second or two- not sticky hard; more like that stuff is "gluing" everything in place. For special events, I think this is a MUST have. The price is around $10 bucks I think, give or take a dollar. I can't remember the website, but just Google it and you're all good.

And that's it- my routine for work/going out. I'm so lazy in the morning's and I like to keep everything simple- unless I feel like I have to "impress" someone (you know what I mean!)- I'm in a cube all day, so why not be comfortable. When I go OUT, I'm ALL about being glammed up- so much so that my friends seem to have this joke that "Jenny will be dressed up- even for a BBQ." I don't think that's true...although, somehow I think MY idea of casual compared to some others, is all skewed. For example: I don't own real casual shirts. I have tons of Chi Omega (sorority) t-shirts and I LIVE in them when I'm at home, but the majority of my shirts and tops have some sort of embellishment or detail- I have no plain tops.

Off topic- and so now I'm ending this post because it's gotten long. Hopefully you guys were half interested! :-) Tell me what your make-up routine is like and some of your favorite brands (be it foundation, blush, eyeshadow, etc.)!

Cirrrus-ly??

Just when I FINALLY find THE perfect duvet for re-vamping one of my spare bedrooms.......SOLD OUT. Grrrr. Not even on backorder, Anthropologie, but Sold Out? Come ON! Here it is. The Cirrus Duvet in ocean. *sigh* It would go perfectly with my vision for the room....

I'm keeping my eyes peeled on e-bay and on Anthro's website for a possible re-stock. If any of you find this duvet in Ocean, PLEASE let me know ASAP :-)

I'm planning on getting a double/queen bed for the other spare bedroom (I have a total of 3 bedrooms) since the other room only has a twin. I'm starting to feel bad for my guests who have to sleep on an air mattress :-/

So, to all my Anthro loving chicks out there- I need your help with the sizing and fit of a few items I have my eye on. I live 3 hours from the nearest Anthro store, so trying on is O-U-T for me. What are your thoughts on......

Eyeleted Islands Dress- $158

Live Oaks Dress- $188 (WTF>?)

Sweet Shoppe Dress- $158

Island Holiday Dress- Sale $79.95 (This looks FAB on Natalie. Wouldn't have given it a second glance otherwise!)

Transposed Tulips Blouse- $98 (again...Geez with the price, yo)

New Arrival- Stemmed Sweetbriar Dress- $168

Tiny Windows Dress- $118

That's a bunch of the stuff in my Anthro shopping cart as of right now. It sucks not being near a real life store.

Running Update: I know you runners who follow me probably can't stand these "fashion" posts- but that's part of me, babay!! For those of you who are wondering- yes, I'm still training for the Army 10-miler. Things have been a little sucky lately with the running, however....I haven't given up yet. Please keep the encouragements coming because it truly does give me a world of hope!

I'll be posting about my make-up routine- specifically foundation/face, so if you're interested look for that tomorrow!
