Garmin arrives & Flower Bed Designs

I feel so uninspired to post anything....This will be short and blah.

Number 1: My Garmin Forerunner 305 arrived Saturday, and I'm itching to try it outside on a run! My knee however is NOT. I ran today after a four day hiatus from ANY sort of activity- besides driving a car 12 hours this weekend (Heloooo, Bridal Shower!)- and my knee started hurting. ugh. This is why I start on the treadmill and work my way outside to harder surfaces. Let's just hope the pain subsides. I stretched and stretched after my TWO mile disaster today. haha!
Number 2: The Bridal Shower. It was great- a rainy, muggy day in Augusta, GA, but the bride and groom were so pleased and loved the shower. I loved that they loved it. It was tough at times- Backstory: Amanda has four bridesmaids. I've known Amanda since Kindergarten, been close friends since 8th grade- She moved to GA after our Sophomore year of high school. She made friends, naturally, and I like them, I truly do, but I got the feeling (and my feelings are strong and ALWAYS almost right) that they looked at me (STILL!?) as an outsider. Me? The outsider? Amanda & I have shared more than they ever will.....

They looked at me like I wasn't doing a good enough job as MOH. Maybe I'm imagining it, but I felt "talked down to" at times. Whatever. The only reason my inner bitch didn't come out was because they just aren't worth it. They're like vapid air. I thank God everyday that I have a personality.

I also felt left out because I was practically the ONLY girl at the shower who was single. Ok, Ok, actually, I was the ONLY single girl at the shower...Do you have any idea how it feels to be the ONLY single girl in a house full of couples? It's like a nightmare. Events like this make me question why I'm 26 and don't even have a boyfriend...and why I don't really CARE. LOL. Don't EVEN get me started on one of the bridesmaids who got engaged THREE months after meeting her husband. BAHAH! yeahhhh.....

I'm waiting for Mr. Right. And if I'm 40 when i find him...so be it. At least I won't be divorced in 5 years. Or worse...unhappy in a marriage.

(No offense to y'all who are married. No offense to anyone who engaged after 3 months of knowing someone....well, maybe. Are you nuts?!)

Here's a Bride & Bridesmaids photo from the day. Bride-to-be is the blonde. AND YES. I'm wearing the same dress I wore to my friend's engagement party last weekend. LOL. I was in a rush to pack so I grabbed what I knew to be pretty-ful! Sue me. I did add a J. Crew flower sash instead of the green one it came with. I like it!

Doing my MOH duty! I love how that skillet weighs more than Amanda! LOL @ her face!

The engraved vase frame I got for the shower. I HEART daisies!

Can you tell I'm just slightly wound up? This is possibly why I've avoided blogging today- I hate negativity in my blog writing, but sometimes...it helps. Might I add, three glasses of wine doesn't really censor my fast typing fingers, either. ;-)

Number 3: I'm planting my first flower bed! Hot damn...who would have thought my weekend plans would include "planting flowers" for fun. I'm so excited!! My little backyard is begging for some color and pretty things! I know I want azalea bushes (which are hugley popular here in the South), but what to put in the bed......Snapdragons? Hydrangeas? Carnations? Hmm...Do you have a flower bed? What's in yours??

It's bedtime folks. I have an early start to my morning. Welcome to the world of public affairs!

Outfit of The DAY (plus) Army 10-miler training up-to-the-date.

Run Training: After mulling over all of your advice, I decided the best thing for me to do is an entire 3 miles, focusing on the distance & endurance, and not so much my pace yet.....uhmmmyeyah. My time sucked today. LOL. I knocked out 3 miles in 40:00. Ugh. Excuse me while I unfurrow my brow and de-crinkle my nose. Nah, I didn't expect to run it in 30:00, or even 35:00, but 40? Geez. You can call me Grandma Jenny.

I'll just keep on trudging along- because I can only get better :-)

I made a great purchase yesterday- a Garmin Forerunner 305! I obviously really would have liked to have the much sleeker and cuter green garmin 405, but I still love my Anthropologie, people. I can't spend a fortune on a running watch. This is perfect though and have heard good things from friends about it- I love the idea of knowing exactly what your pace and distance is. What motivation! Look how big this sucker is...I mean, really. I'd almost think this was a big joke. HAHA!! Looks like something from the '80s.OOTD: Yes, I FINALLY have an outfit of the day photo. I know, I know. Did I not promise you all I was going to start doing this? :-) I honestly don't do it more because what I wear to work is dull most days. I'm in public affairs and I rarely ever get out of my cubical (Yeah. The Public in Public Affairs wouldn't really suggest I sit in a cube all day would it? Don't get me wrong- I get out plenty, but not for long periods of time.) Most days I'm doing social media stuff and talking to media on the phone.

Anyway- My outfit of zee day.

Occasion- Casual Engagement Party
Dress- Anthro, Summer 2008

Cardigan- TJ Maxx ($5!)
Sandals- Target (Similar here)

Why does my dog insist on licking me after I've takena shower or sweated. UGH. Drives me CRAZY!! Then I feel bad for scolding. :-/ (random thought. Because he's freakin' doing it NOW as I type.)

Dinner tonight is whole wheat spaghetti and turkey meatballs. Lunch and dinner for tomorrow (pre-made tonight) Stuffed Bell peppers (with turkey meat).

Have a wonderful night.
For all you Anthro lovers- see you on the webiste bright and early for *hopefully* a great sale!!

Freakin' Fackin' Coffee

I need some coffee...Maybe two servings of it. Sudafed has knocked me on my ass- I slept wayyy too hard last night and woke up with puffy eyes and a feeling of drunkenness. I didn't even get to drink any wine.

I wish I could stay home all day and do nothing instead of get dressed and go to my friend's engagaement party...I'm in her wedding. I guess I'm obligated to go. LOL. And I want to go, just not right now (current time 9:40 a.m. CST).

Happily, I signed up for TWO 5k's in the next few weekends! May 1st and May 8th. Nothing better than some practice competitions- and I'm excited to see how I do. I purchased a Garmin Forerunner 305 for my runs, to keep track of my pace and time- it was recommended to me by Meghhan, who is SUCH a running inspiration for me.

I'll give you my running stats for the past few days. WARNING: They SUCK! :-)

Tuesday: Two miles in 26:31 Wednesday: Two miles in 26:00 Thursday: Two miles in 25:39

Do we see a pattern? Ok, sure, my time went down, AND I can gladly say I jogged/ran straight through the first mile and MOST of the second (we're talking no faster than 5.5 at ANY given point here), but I need 3! 3 is the magic number here, guys.

I'm finding it hard to decide if I need to practice for speed or completing an entire 3 miles at a steady pace. Yeah- that last option sounds smarter saying outloud.

So- question for allll of you avid runners out there- Should I focus on completing an entire 3 miles before I focus on speed and ONLY speed? I understand I should do both, but I'm asking, at this moment as a beginner...

Thanks for all of the advice you ladies have given me this week for starting a running lifestyle- The biggest decision I've made is, in a month or so, to drive 3 hours to my nearest Fleet Feet and get fitted for the PERFECT running shoe for me :-) "If you're gonna do it, do it right," I always say! Or maybe someone else said that and I stole it.

I'm off to Dunkin Doughtnuts for coffee. Perhaps I'll be awake next time you hear from me.

Cheerio.

My first training attempt

Uhm. So last night, I laced up my sneakers (need new ones soon. Keep reading. More on that later in this entry.) and hopped on my beautiful, new treadmill for my VERY first "training" session for this Army 10-miler.

I shouldn't get so involved with the distance and time, seeing as how I haven't RAN an entire mile in over a YEAR, but I was slightly disappointed, yet still motivated to keep pushing myself little by little.

It was hard NOT to think about the distance of 10 miles. As I ran/jogged/walked/panted, questions swirled in my brain, "How in the HELL am I going to run 3 miles, let alone all 10 come race day in October?!", "1.75 miles? That's IT?? I'm gonna die."

My stats?
I walked/jogged/ran the first mile in 12:30. Mile 2: 14:00. Total time for 2 measly miles: 26:30.

I was really hoping to run 5K in under 30 minutes, but thinking honestly about it- that's FAST. 10:00 mile? *BAHAHA!!* Yeah, I am nowhere near that.

And don't you hate those people who will post a Facebook status and/or complain about something, when in actuality it's nothing to complain about? Well, I do.

Example:

"UGH. Completed the 5K in 32 minutes. Horrible time, but not bad for my first run."

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Really?? Really?? Care for some cheese with that wine?

So, anyway. I'm still trying to determine the BEST training method for me. Tonight I think I'll try to jog/run 10 minutes straight- not going super fast, but at comfortable speeds so that I won't need a break. We'll see the distance I get and I can improve from there, slowly adding more run time minute by minute, week by week.

The most important thing I realized last night was how my priorities have shifted since being signed up for this race. No longer, at least for now, are my workouts/runs centered around me losing weight. I'm working out/strength training/running because I want to improve. I want to accomplish a feat that most people are SCARED to even begin. The perk about all of this? The weight will still come off and I'm not even concerned about it- it'll JUST happen. Do you know how freeing that is?? It's a total feeling of freedom.
Add Image
I was scared of running. Still am in a way- It's something I've always thought of as impossible for myself. Run 3 miles straight? (I was one of the last kids in school to finish their mile run.) When that day comes, I may cry.

On to shoes: Running shoes that is. Although not my fave type of shoe, nor the prettiest & sexiest, a very important one. Have any of you heard/seen the new Reebok Zigtech shoes?
Here they are. The coolest thing? You can customize colors! Bring on the hot pink!!

Although, not the most attractive (how about them lasagana noodle lookin' soles??)- they are supposedly designed as "energy for your feet", propelling you forward per say? I'd like to try them on and get a feel for them. At present time I wear Adidas with the shocks looking things on the bottom- gives me great support. If you run at all or workout, what shoes do you wear?

Another realization? I need more carbs if I'm going to run. Geez. Talk about almost pass-out city for me last night. LOL!
Have a great Wednesday.

Getting To Know You Sunday

Ok, ok- so sometimes I get sucked into fun "questions" posts. I thought this set of questions was interesting and would be entertaining for me- I'm super bored on this early Sunday, and feel pretty bad.....Why?

I mowed my grass yesterday. Yeah, all by myself. And no, this may not be an accomplishment to MOST, but this girl has NEVER pushed a mower in her LIFE! Bahah! I had to start sometime. It was a GREAT workout, but the pollen?? Horrible. And I don't even have problems with allergies. Ugh. Now I feel everyone's pain.

Anyway- on to the questions! To play go here, and also be sure to "link-up".

1. What color do you wear the most?
* I tend to wear blues and blacks the most. They just look best on me. Black because (duh) it's slimming. Blue, because my eyes are blue and they make them stand-out, like whoa (haha).

2. Would you rather have $10,000 dollars or a dream vacation?
* Uhmmm, $10,000 please and thank-you. Do you even KNOW what I could buy and/or pay-off with $10,000?? I have a student loan still. Annddd a couple credit cards that could be easily hacked off.

3. Do you have a weird, quirky or unusual habit?
* Ever since I was little, I've twisted/twirled my hair....and I STILL do it. The weird thing is, so did my great Aunt and my Aunt used to as well. Isn't that weird? Anyway, I only twist my hair when I'm one of three things: 1. Tired, 2. Bored, 3. Thinking. Yeah.

4. I really need to start..........?
* Wearing a surgical mask when I mow the lawn apparently.....

5. What was the first blog you ever read?
* oh geez. I don't know the specific blog, and I'm sure it doesn't even exist anymore, but it was more than likely a weight-loss/fitness blog.

6. Do you collect anything?
* You could say I collect Anthropologie clothing.....But, I'm going to tell you, the one thing I collect most of is owls! I love them. Not only are they my sorority's "mascot", but my grandmother also collected them! I have ALL kinds and want to put them on cute wall shelves if I can ever get around to decorating and painting the spare bedroom.....Maybe that should be the answer to my, 'I should really start..." question, huh?

7. How old were you when you had your first kiss?
* I was 15 and I still remember it like it was yesterday.

8. Do you text/twitter while driving?
* *sigh* Yes, I do text while driving, but lately I've tried to only do it at stop lights and have, honestly, been successful at doing so.

YOUR TURN! Happy Sunday. Don't mow your lawn without a mask. Pollen= devil death.

Treadmill is a success!

The treadmill I bought (ahem...MOTHER bought for me...) is fantastic! It's SUCH a great quality for the price ($999 on sale from $1,400- Did I mention that last post? YEAH...GREAT deal, suckas!) I ran at 5.5 and 6.0 (for a few seconds. BAHA!) and that thing was sturdy as one you'll find at your local sweaty gym. Score for the treadmill and I can't wait to start training on that bad boy.

The next few weekends I have lots of fun events to look forward to: Engagement party, bridal shower I (THE MOH) am throwing and a Bachelorette party spent in Columbia, SC at an awesome Dueling Piano bar. I love Piano Bars (think "Howl at The Moon" if you have one near you....)- so much fun and SUCH a different vibe than the usual bars and clubs. Have any of you been to "Crocodile Rocks" in Columbia?

Boring post. Off to bed for a fun-filled day at work tomorrow! G'night all.

I leave you with something random. Britney from her concert in ATL. *sigh* I love that hoe-bag.

Treadmill and fashion finds

It really is amazing how being around friends makes you happy- just solidifying my theory that this life we live on earth IS all about relationships and having people around you who you love. Ok...yeah, no, I didn't CREATE this theory, but I strongly believe in it.

OH CRAP MOMENT. I have 3 weeks until my BFF's Couples Wedding Shower and haven't bought any Favors for the guests yet....I'm the MOH. I wanted to buy cute koozies, but now I'm not sure they'll get here in time...Any ideas?? Honestly, I've been outting that idea off because hardly any of the 25 invitees have RSVP'd besides the bridal party and the parents of the couple. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. Do people NOT have consideration anymore? RSVP people. It AIN'T (yes, ain't) that hard!!

I took the first steps toward training for the Army 10-miler today. I bought a treadmill!! I had a budget, so I'm hoping this one holds up for the price tag- It'll be here Thursday! :-) It's The Nordictrak A2750 Pro.

BUT, trust me when I tell you, I realize I not only need to train indoors- but the treadmill will help me to begin with. Plus, my right knee likes to scream at me when I run on asphalt :-/ Which is my biggest concern, to tell you the truth, about this entire experience. The last thing I wanna do is screw up my knee by training too hard. Here's hoping the knee brace does it's job! And the frozen peas.

MY SCARS REMIND ME, THAT THE PAST IS REAL. So..remember that rash I had a few weeks back? *sigh* It left my upper arms with small scars :-( BIG, huge honking *sigh*. They're faint, but damnit....scars??? It can't be from me scratching because I rarely did. Does anyone have recs for any kind of cream or lotion that will reduce the appearance of these....THAT WORKS? I'm not a believer in creams fixing things (i.e. stretchmarks) but I'm thinking these are such little, baby scars that something may help out.....

FASHION FEVA'. Ann Taylor LOFT was sweet enough to send me $40 bucks in Style rewards. Yeah. It only took me spending HUNDREDS of dollars on my Mom's Ann Taylor LOFT Credit Card (which can be used at other stores. I don't think I'd ever spend hundreds at Ann Taylor LOFT. I never see a lot of stuff I particularly like.), but was well worth it. I bought these two items:

The cardigan, I bought to layer over my Balletomane top from Anthropologie- I LOVE the color combo of the dark purple of the cardigan with the light ash blue top. LOVE it!

Also, I FINALLY scored the Rodarte Lace dress from Target that I never even saw in stores. Nabbed it off ebay suckas! Happily, I actually REALLY love it. I never buy clothes from Target, because they're cut weird for my body- but this dress is GREAT! It's a teeny bit on the shprter side, but then again, I have long legs so everything LOOKS shorter than it actually is on me. I think I'll wear it to work anyway- As long as my hoo hoo isn't hanging out, we're ALL good.

I'm craving Chik-Fil-A. And I must listen to my stomach. Have a great night, pretty ladies (and gents? haha)

NON-April Fools!!!!

At first I thought my leg was being pulled. My dear friend, Courtney (seen above), whom lives in D.C. and whom I lived in D.C. with for months, decided that because her little stick-self loves running marathons and shit for FUN, that she would sign up some of her friends to run in The Army 10-Miler in October.....Guess who one of those "friends" is?

THIS girl.

Yes. On Sunday, October 24th I will be stomping the streets of D.C. with my size 10 sneakers. *sigh*

In a way I wish this was an April Fools joke.

I'm scared shitless.

I used to run- the last time I ran? About a YEAR ago. And even then, I could only run 1 mile without stopping. I have NEVER ran more than 3 miles in one workout setting.

I think I may kill Courtney.......................

But, if you wanna know something so odd- I'll tell ya. I'm a teeny bit excited about this.

I love a challenge when it comes to physical fitness. I was always the fat-kid in gym class who walked the mile, and NEVER made it under 15 minutes. I've always been super jealous of people who can run long distances. So, now's my chance to prove to myself I can do it.

The Army 10-Miler is a HUGE deal and such a wonderful race! I work for The Army, so naturally I'm all about supporting them.

I'll be running on The Fisher House Team, which you can read more about here. This is the same organization Courtney ran for last year, to help raise money for. Taken directly from their website:

"The Fisher House™ program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury."

If any of you would like to donate and support The Fisher House (and ME as I run 10 miles!!), please do so via the link I provided :-) I would appreciate it and I know my fellow team members would!

I'm so excited to get to go back to DC! As much as I was ready to get back to Alabama and NOT live out of a suitcase (you all may need to go back to 2009 and read my posts to know what I'm talking about)- I LOVED that place and the friends I made. It's definitely going to be a HUGE reunion.

Anyone in the DC area??? I know there are some of you out there who read my blog, so let's meet up!??

Also, I am in major desperate need of running long-distance tips and training for such things. I don't know how to begin- I think I know....but I have no idea (This is the Diary of Jenny. BAHA! Get it? Please.). So if you're a runner, please comment and pass along advice.

Thank you my lovely readers! Have a wonderful day!
